Titans Wrap Up the Fall at Rainbow Wahine Invitational

THIS WEEK: The Cal State Fullerton women's golf team will conclude the fall portion of the 2014-15 schedule when the Titans head to the Rainbow Wahine Invitational hosted by Hawai'i beginning on Wednesday.

THE COURSE: The event will be held at the 6,228-yard par-72 Leilehua Golf Course in Wahiawa, O'ahu. The teams were originally scheduled to play 54 holes over the course of three days but that has since been shortened to two days. The field will play 36 holes on Wednesday and 18 holes Thursday with a shotgun start scheduled at 11:00 a.m. PT each day. 

THE FIELD: Along with the Titans and the host Rainbow Wahine, 12 other teams will be participating in the three-day tournament including last year's tournament champion Sacramento State. The rest of the field features Alabama State, Boise State, BYU, Grand Canyon, UH-Hilo, Nebraska, UC Irvine, Utah Valley, Vanderbilt, Weber State and Wichita State.

IN THE POLLS: The Titans go into the Rainbow Wahine Invitational ranked 79th in the first NCAA Head-to-Head rankings issued by GolfStat.com on Oct. 15. Fullerton is one of five teams ranked in the top-100 of the rankings including Vanderbilt (No. 18), BYU (No. 72), Boise State (No. 85) and Nebraska (No. 93).

LAST TIME OUT: The Titans scored the team's second straight top-five finish with a fourth-place showing at the New Mexico State Invitational on Oct. 6-8. Senior Tisha Alyn Abrea and sophomore Martina Edberg each tied the school record for the lowest score in a single round, recording a 3-under 69. Both players finished tied for fifth place.

HIGH FIVE: Martina Edberg and Tisha Alyn Abrea each recorded a top-five finish at the New Mexico State Invitational, the second such finish for each player in three tournaments so far this season. Overall, Abrea has had six top-five finishes in her career while Edberg has tallied four top-five finishes in two seasons with the Titans.

A NEW LOW: The Titans recorded a collective 871 at the New Mexico State Invitational, setting a new school record for lowest team score at a 54-hole event since the women's golf program was reinstated for the 2009-10 season. The team recorded three of the top-five lowest single round scores in the program's history at the tournament. Fullerton's 288 in the second round ranks as the second lowest score in history with the 290 in the third round places fourth in school history. The 293 score in the first round is tied for the fifth lowest score in Titans history.

On the individual side, Tisha Alyn Abrea and Martina Edberg tied for the lowest 54-hole score with a 4-under 212, surpassing Edberg's 213 at the Juli Inkster Spartan Invite on March 3-4, 2013.

FREQUENT FLYERS: Cal State Fullerton had tournaments in four different states during the fall portion of the 2014-15. They close out the fall portion of the season this week at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational in Wahiawa, Hawaii.
