• The men's basketball team went a perfect 8-0 and averaged 95.4 points a game, to take home the gold medal. Leon Wood led the team in assists (7.9 per game). It was the last amatuer US basketball team to win the gold medal. The team was considered one of the strongest in US history as it featured four of the five 1984 consensus first-team All-Americans in Micahel Jordan, Patrick Ewing, Wayman Tisdale and Sam Perkins.
• Baseball was a demonstration sport in 1984, no official medals were given out. USA lost to Japan, 6-3, in the first-place final game held at Dodger Stadium.
