Titans Finish Fifth at Rainbow Wahine Invitational

OAHU, Hawaii – Cal State Fullerton wrapped up its fall schedule Thursday afternoon with a fifth-place finish at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational hosted by Hawai'i at the Leilehua Golf Course in Oahu, Hawaii.

The Titans recorded a 21-over 309 in the third and final round of the tournament to finish the 54-hole event with a 44-over 908, five strokes behind BYU for fourth place. Vanderbilt took home first place after recording an even-par 288 on Thursday and finished the tournament with a 2-under 862, 34 strokes ahead of second-place Boise State.

Fullerton recorded its third consecutive team top-five finish after finishing fourth at last week's New Mexico State Invitational. The Titans scored their first victory of the season at the Rose City Collegiate back on Sept. 29-30.

Sophomore Martina Edberg was the top finisher for the Titans at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational, recording a 5-over 221. She carded a 1-over 73 in the third round, her best score of the tournament to finish in a tie for sixth place. It is Edberg's second top-10 finish of the season and the sixth of her career with the Titans. 

Senior Tisha Alyn Abrea entered the final round in the top-five but struggled in the third round, posting an 8-over 80 on Wednesday to finish the tournament in a tie for 15th place after carding a 9-over 225 at the event. Abrea scored her third consecutive top-20 finish and the 14th of her career.

Freshman Brittany Farrell wrapped up the first half of her first season with the Titans with a 28th place finish at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational. Farrell carded a 7-over 79 on Wednesday to finish the tournament with a 15-over 231.

Junior Nadine Rivera, who competed as an individual for the Titans, had the best tournament of her career. Rivera set both a new single-round and 54-hole best score after posting a 4-over 76 on Wednesday to finish the tournament at 16-over 232. Rivera finished tied for 34th place, the best standing in her career.

Makayla Mier recorded a 5-over 77 on Wednesday to finish tied for 39th with a 17-over 233 while Dakota Brown rounded out the Titans scoring with a 21-over 237 in 54 holes.

In four tournaments this fall, the Titans finished with a 76.43 scoring average in 64 total rounds of play. Edberg leads the team with a 73.58 scoring average followed by Abrea at 74.08 and then Mier with a 76.58 mark. The Titans best single round score came at the New Mexico State Invitational when the team carded a collective 288 in the second round, the second lowest score in the program's history. Edberg and Abrea each tied for the lowest individual single-round score with each recording a 69 at the New Mexico State Invitational.

The Titans will return to the links on Feb. 9, 2015 for the spring portion of the 2014-15 schedule as Fullerton takes part in the Gold Rush hosted by Long Beach State.
