SACRAMENTO, Calif. – For the second straight race, Katie Bathgate led the Titan women, while for the fourth time this season, freshman Gilbert Solorza led the Titan men, as the women's and men's cross country teams finished 11th and 12th, respectively, at the Inter Region Jamboree on Friday morning at Haggin Oaks Golf Course.

Bathgate, the reigning, Big West Cross Country Women's Athlete of the Week, finished the 5k course in 44th place with a time of 17:44 to lead the pack. Following Bathgate was Emily Taylor in 47th place with a time of 17:50. Freshman Arianna Fuentes completed the race in a time of 18:16 (77th place), and was the third Titan to cross the finish line.

"All of the Big West Conference teams were at this meet except for Hawai'i," head coach John Elders said. "Amongst our Big West opponents we finished fifth, and that's a step forward for this team."

The Titan women finished seventh last year at the Big West championships.

UCLA edged Cal Poly to win the women's team title. The Bruins tallied 77 points to finish one point ahead of the Mustangs. UC Davis was third with 88 and Sacramento State scored 102 to place fourth. California and Oregon State completed the top five by scoring 145 points each. Fullerton totaled 309 points for an 11th place finish.

Completing the top –seven finishers for Cal State Fullerton included Tijerra Lynch (79th, 18:18), Sara Taylor (86th, 18:22), Ana Valdovinos (92nd, 18:27) and Celinda Manzo (109th, 18:51).

Solorza led the Titan men completing the 8k course in a time of 24:46. A trio of rookies led the men's team as Jose Penaloza finished the race in a time of 25:19 (69th) followed by Daniel Ramirez (72nd, 25:26).

"It was the most competitive event we've raced in this year," Elders said. "We didn't get out front in the beginning of the race, and then we just were caught in the back. With the level of competition, it was too much to overcome. The team learned a lot about the importance of racing at the level we train at."

UCLA won the team title with 54 points. The Bruins were followed by Cal Poly (67), UC Santa Barbara (86), UC Davis (111) and California (123) in the top five. Rajpaul Pannu (Saint Mary's) pulled away with just about a mile remaining to win the race by two seconds. Sean Davidson of Cal Poly was second in 23:30. Fullerton totaled 279 points to place 12th.

Rounding out the top-seven finishers for the Titans included Jayson Perez (75th, 25:31), Sean Graham (84th, 25:40), Donald Bernard (90th, 25:44) and Kevin Russell (93rd, 25:47).
