Titans Wrap Up Busy Weekend of Competition

FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton men's and women's track and field team wrapped up a busy week of competition after participating in the Mt. SAC Relays, Bryan Clay Invitational, and CA Combined Events Invite.

The Titans had strong performances at each meet and below are recaps of the Titans top finishers at each invitational.

Mt. SAC Relays

Fullerton sent a group of mostly sprinters to the 56th annual Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. at Hilmer Lodge Stadium over the weekend. The Titans competed against some of the nation's best schools at the event, which included USC, Alabama, Central Florida, San Diego State, and many more.

The Titans highest finish came in both the men's and women's 4x100m relay as both teams placed third. On the men's side a quartet of Nick Sole, Luis Matos, Joshua Gordon, and Malek Walls ran a season best time of 41.18, while a foursome of Destinee Brown, Katie Wilson, Ashley Sims, and Alexandria Stewart recorded a season best time of 45.59 for the women.

Wilson also was the highest individual finisher for the Titans as she placed eighth in the 400-meter dash with a season best time of 54.22. Also on the track, freshman Destinee Brown recorded a time of 11.66 in the 100-meter dash to finish 10th and in the 200-meter dash she placed 21st with a mark of 24.08.

In the 100-meter hurdles, junior Deena Pierce finished in 22nd among 63 competitors with a time of 14.16.

Bryan Clay Invitational

On Friday, the Titans participated in the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific. Fullerton sent mid-distance and field athletes to compete in Azusa, Calif.

In the field, Emmanuel Martinez was Fullerton's top finisher in the discus with a throw of 127-02 throw to finish second, while Steven Parsons placed fourth in the shot put with a toss of 46-00.50. Also, in the javelin Phillip Wogee and Chris Vega finished second and third with throws of 164-05 and 162-00, respectively.

Sophomore Cliff King also had an impressive 152-01 toss in the hammer throw to finish in fourth, while in the women's triple jump Tejera Dial led all Titans with a jump of 36-09.00

On the track, Shelby Hernandez Jr. was the highest finishing Titan with a fourth place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:53.07. Freshman Gilbert Solorza continued his impressive season with a third-place finish in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:24.28.

CA Invite Combined Events

The Titans had three athletes compete in the California Invite Multi-Events in Azusa, Calif., this week with Taylor Frank and Nicolette Garcia competing in the heptathlon and Bubba Ostrowski participating in the decathlon.

Garcia finished in 33rd place with 4,131 points, while Frank came in 39th place with 3,955 points. On the men's side Ostrowski finished in 14th with 5,681 points. Listed below are each participants time/distance in each event:
