Titans Baseball Looks Back at 2015 as New Year and Season Approach

FULLERTON, Calif. - With the calendar year coming to a close and the 2016 baseball season coming up, the Cal State Fullerton baseball progam looks back at some of the highlights from 2015.

  •  The 2015 season marked the 20th anniversary of the 1995 Titans National Championship team, considered to be one of the greatest college baseball teams ever assembled. The O.C. Register took a look back at the squad. Story
  • Junior designated hitter David Olmedo-Barrera tied the Titans single-game RBI record in a victory over Cal Poly at Goodwin Field on April 4. Story | Box Score
  • Former Titan Danny Dorn was the first of four former Titans to make his debut in Major League Baseball, playing for the Arizona Diamondbacks on April 22. Story
  • Michael Lorenzen makes MLB Debut with the Cincinnati Reds, the second Titans player to do so within a week, joining Dorn. Story
  • Cal State Fullerton claimed its 20th Big West Conference title and fifth in the last six seasons. Overall, it was the 28th conference title in school history. Story 
  • In his last season with Cal State Fullerton, right-hander Thomas Eshelman was named a semifinalist for the 2015 USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award, the second time in his three seasons at Fullerton that Eshelman was named a semifinalist. Story
  • Thomas Eshelman, David Olmedo-Barrera and Rick Vanderhook earn Big West Conference Pitcher, Co-Player and Coach of the Year awards as nine players overall earned conference honors. Story

  • Four players; John Gavin, Thomas Eshelman, David Olmedo-Barrera and Tyler Peitzmeier were named All-Americans, rounded out by Eshleman and Olmedo-Barrera's ABCA selections. Story

The Titans will kick off preparation for the 2016 season with the alumni weekend, which begins at Dinner With the Titans, the baseball program's annual fundraising event.

Academy Award and Emmy-winning actor, director and Cal State Fullerton alum Kevin Costner will be the keynote speaker for the 10th annual Dinner with the Titans fundraiser, which will take place at the Irvine Marriott in Irvine, Calif on Jan. 29, 2016.

The annual Titans alumni game will take place on Jan. 30 at Goodwin Field. 

Fullerton will begin the 2016 regular season on Feb. 19 when they face Stanford in Palo Alto for a three-game series. Overall, Cal State Fullerton will play a 56-game schedule in 2016 with 33 games taking place at Goodwin Field and 23 on the road. The Titans were 21-8 at home and 17-13 on the road in 2015.
