GWANGJU, Korea - Cal State Fullerton arrived in Gwangju, South Korea in the early hours of July 2 after a 12-hour flight and three-plus hour bus ride finally brought the Titans to the Athletes Village of the 2015 World University Games.
The Titans started the day off simply enough with breakfast in the massive dining hall that feeds the numerous athletes that began competing in 21 sports on Thursday. The Titans followed that with a brief orientation with other members of the United State delegation.
The team capped off the night in style, swinging over to KIA Champions Field, one of the two sites for baseball at the World University Games, to catch a game between the Kia Tigers and Hanwha Eagles.
It gave the team a chance to catch former Titan Brett Pill (2004-06), the starting first baseman for the Tigers. Pill smacked a double to spark a three-run fourth inning for the Tigers, which resulted in some television time for the Titans on the Korean broadcast of the game as well as some face time on the video board at the stadium.
The Titans wrapped up the night by catching a ride back to the village courtesy of the Tigers team bus.
On Friday, the Titans will get started early with an exhibition against France at 11 a.m. Korea time/7 p.m. PT Thursday. Following the game, the Titans will head to the Gwangju Universiade Main Stadium for opening ceremonies, which are expected to draw more than 40,000 spectators.
