FULLERTON, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton will continue Big West action this weekend as they take on Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara. The Titans will face the Mustangs in Friday at 7:00 p.m. for their home opener and then face the Gauchos on Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
Fullerton opened up conference play at UC Riverside on Tuesday, where they fell in four sets to the Highlanders. Individually, Tyler Fezzey had her best performance of the season matching her career-high with 14 kills while Julia Crawford (12 kills, 12 digs) and Makenzi Abelman (37 assists, 16 digs) each posted double-doubles.
For the season, the Titans continue to be one of the better defensive teams in the country ranking fifth in the NCAA in digs per set (18.77) and eighth in total digs (901). Savahna Costello ranks ninth in the country averaging 5.60 digs per set and 25th in total digs with 241. Crawford is also in the rankings at 46th with 4.13 kills per set.
Looking at the opponents for the weekend, Cal Poly enters the weekend on a three-match win streak with an 8-5 record after sweeping Long Beach in their conference opener. The Mustangs currently rank eighth in the conference in hit percentage and ninth in overall kills. Offensively, they are led by Maia Dvoracek who ranks ninth in the Big West averaging 3.42 kills per set. In program history, Fullerton trails the all-time series 10-56 and have lost the last 10 matches to Poly.
UC Santa Barbara enters the weekend with the best record in the Big West. They are currently on a nine-match win streak and have an 11-1 record on the season beating CSUN in five sets in their conference opener. The Gauchos rank first in the conference averaging 13.86 kills per set led by Lindsey Ruddins who leads the Big West with 4.70 kills per set. In program history, Fullerton trails the all-time series 8-69 and have lost the last 13 meetings.
