RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton (8-5, 0-2 Big West) was swept by the defending Big West champs (14-25, 21-25, 15-25) in their home opener Friday night.
Julia Crawford led the way with seven kills to go along with nine digs. Danielle Jeffries recorded four kills while Tyler Fezzey, Makenzi Abelman, Alicia Dennis, and Haley Carmo all had three. Abelman also posted 21 assists. Savahna Costello posted another great defensive match with a match-high 16 digs.
Cal Poly wasted no time taking control of the match jumping out to a 6-1 lead early. The Mustangs would go on to out-hit the Titans by over 34% and take the first set 25-14.
Fullerton bounced back in the second set matching the defending Big West champs point for point the whole way through. Unfortunately, the Titans would come up just short falling 25-21.
The Titans fell behind early once again in the third set and could not spark a comeback as Cal Poly would complete the sweep with a 25-15 third set win to take the match.
Cal State Fullerton will look to bounce back tomorrow night against the red hot Gauchos of UC Santa Barbara. First serve is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
