FULLERTON, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton women's soccer continues its homestand to start the season by hosting Northern Colorado on Friday at 5 p.m. PT in Titan Stadium. As the first part of the doubleheader, the men's soccer team will play at 7:30 p.m. or 30 minutes after the women's game ends against Hartford, their first match of the season. Friday's matches will be available live on BigWest.TV. The women will then play at Utah Valley on Monday at 12 p.m. PT and that match can be viewed here.

The Titans split their two matches last weekend, falling 4-1 to Arizona State in the opener but defeating the reigning Big Ten champions in Minnesota 2-0 on Sunday.

Junior Haley Brown scored the first goal of the season for the Titans with assists from sophomore Kaya Hawkinson and senior Atlanta Primus off a corner kick. Hawkinson delivered the ball into the box and Primus flicked it on to Brown who finished it off with her head.

Senior Maddie Bennett had a goal and an assist on Sunday to lead the Titans to victory. After linking up with Primus, she delivered a cross to the back post where junior Callie Petrey-Juarez headed it home for the first goal of her collegiate career.  Hawkinson and Brown then assisted senior Maddie Bennett's goal on Sunday, the first of her Titan career. Similar to Brown's goal against ASU, Hawkinson delivered the corner into the box, Brown got a touch on it and Bennett powerfully finished it off.

The midfield duo of Primus and Hawkinson were No. 1 and No. 2 on the 2018 squad in assists and have picked up right where they left off as each have two to lead the team.

In just her second game as a collegiate athlete, redshirt freshman Noa Schumacher recorded a shutout but to no fault of her own, she was not tested at all by the Golden Gophers as the Titans defense was stifling. They recorded just one shot during the 90 minutes and it was blocked by a Titan defender.

Northern Colorado is 0-1-1 to start the year as they drew 1-1 with SIU-Edwardsville on Aug. 23 and then lost 3-2 at Wyoming in extra time on Wednesday.

Utah Valley is 0-2 thus far, playing both of its first two matches on the road. It fell at Michigan State 3-1 on Aug. 22 and then lost 2-1 in extra time at Michigan on Aug. 25. Amber Tripp has both of the team's lone goals on the year.

Brown talked about the squad in-depth in this video here, breaking down the team by position group and talking about the non-conference schedule. Brown has won over 100 matches in his 12 years as head coach. He has steered the Titans to four Big West regular season championships (2007, 2012, 2014, 2015) and five Big West Tournament championships (2007, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017) representing the league as the Big West's automatic qualifier at the NCAA Tournament for four of the last six years (2013, 2014, 2015, 2017) in addition to the Titans' postseason trip in 2007.

Primus was selected as one of 11 student-athletes to be a Preseason All-Big West honoree. It is her second straight year earning the preseason accolade. As a junior, Primus was 2018 All-Conference First Team selection as she started all 18 games she played in. She scored a team-high six goals and led the team in points scored with 15 as she also dished out three assists.

The Big West Conference also announced that Titans were picked fourth in the preseason coaches poll

Along with a strong crop of newcomers, the Titans also welcome back Alba Barrios and Jessica Simonian from injuries that forced them to miss the entire 2018 season. You can read more about Barrios and her journey here.
