LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Cal State Fullerton is tied for sixth place after the first 18 holes on Monday at the New Mexico State Invitational hosted by the Aggies at the New Mexico State Golf Course in Las Cruces, N.M.

The Titans had a rough start and were tied for 11th at one point during the day before getting back on track and finishing the opening round with a 5-over 293. The Titans are tied with Nevada and find themselves three strokes back of second-place Washington State. Idaho holds the lead after day one as the Vandals carded a collective 4-under 284 Monday, the only team to go into the clubhouse under par.

On the individual side, four Titans are in the top 30 of the 81-player field including three players locked in a tie for 13th place. Fresh off her first career victory at the Rose City Collegiate, senior Tisha Alyn Abrea was one of three Titans to go into the clubhouse after recording a 1-over 73 on Monday, seven strokes behind leader Charlotte Jaengkit. Abrea overcame a triple bogey on No. 5 but was able to overcome that thanks to an eagle on No. 8 and a pair of birdies on the back nine. Abrea also led the field with a 4.00 scoring average on Par-5's, shooting a 4-under on those holes.

Sophomore Martina Edberg also finished the first day with a 1-over 73. Edberg had a steady round throughout the day, recording a bogey and a birdie on the front-nine and sandwiched a birdie between a pair of bogies on the back nine.

Senior Makayla Mier carded a 1-over 73 after a roller coaster day that saw her sitting at 6-over at one point despite hitting an eagle on her second hole. But Mier responded with three birdies and her second eagle of the day on the final six holes of play to shoot her up the leaderboard. Her two eagles nearly half of the five that were recorded on Monday. As a team, the Titans led the field with three eagles on the day, the only team with multiple eagles on Monday.

Freshman Brittany Farrell was one stroke shy of tying her three teammates after recording a 2-over 74 on Monday, placing her in a tie for 29th place. She sank 14 pars on the day, which was tied for fourth after the first 18 holes of play.

Dakota Brown rounded out the Titans team scoring after carding a 9-over 81 through 18 holes. Brown sank 11 pars on the day.

Junior Nadine Rivera competed as an individual and finished the opening day with an 8-over 80. She recorded two birdies on the day.

Round two of the New Mexico State Invitational will tee off Tuesday with a shotgun start at 6:30 a.m. PT with the final round scheduled for Wednesday at 6:30 a.m. PT.
