Titans Look To Keep Rolling as They Head To New Mexico State Invite

THIS WEEK: The Cal State Fullerton women's golf team will be in search of their second victory in as many weeks, heading to the New Mexico State Invitational hosted by New Mexico State University beginning Monday.

THE COURSE: This week's event will be held at the 6,258-yard par-72 New Mexico State University Golf Course in Las Cruces, N.M. Teams will play 18 holes for three straight days beginning Monday, with a shotgun start each day at 6:30 a.m. PT.

THE FIELD: In addition to the Titans and hosts New Mexico State, the tournament features 12 other teams including BYU, Washington State, Boise State, Idaho, Utah Valley, UTEP, Lamar, North Texas, Portland State, Grand Canyon, Wyoming, and Nevada-Reno.

GIVE HER A MEDAL: After 28 tournaments and 83 consecutive rounds played, senior Tisha Alyn Abrea recorded her first career victory with the Titans as she earned medalist honors at the Rose City Collegiate in Aurora, Ore. The Murrieta, Calif. native shot a 1-under 215 at the 54-hole event, the only golfer to record a score under par. It ranks as the second lowest 54-hole score for an individual in school history. She had three birdies on the final day and 10 for the tournament, ranking second in the 75-player field. Overall, Abrea led the field on par-3's with a 2.67 scoring average, shooting a collective 4-under throughout the tournament.

LAST TIME OUT: Along with Abrea's win, the Titans scored their first victory of the season as the squad finished the Rose City Collegiate with a 26-under 890, three strokes ahead of runner-up San Francisco. Four of the Titans' five golfers finished in the top-25 and all five finished in the top-30. The Titans led all teams with 36 birdies and it was the second time Fullerton has claimed the title at the Rose City Collegiate in the past three years.

FREQUENT FLYERS: Cal State Fullerton will have tournaments in four different states during the fall portion of the 2014-15. The Titans will close out the fall portion of the season at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational in Wahiawa, Hawaii on Oct. 21.

TITANS TAP INS:

--Senior Tisha Alyn Abrea has played in every tournament and round throughout her career at Cal State Fullerton. She has appeared in 29 tournaments and played in 86 rounds as a member of the Titans following her victory at the Rose City Collegiate.

--The Titans recorded a collective 291 in the second round of the Rose City Collegiate. It was the lowest score of any team at the Rose City Collegiate and also ranks as the third lowest single-round score in the program's history since it was reinstated for the 2009-10 season.

--The Titans finished third at New Mexico State's Price's "Give 'Em Five" Intercollegiate last season, posting a collective 881. It is the lowest score in the program's history. On the individual side, Tisha Alyn Abrea and Martina Edberg each recorded a 216, which was tied for sixth place.

--Five of the Titans six golfers that have competed this season has recorded at least one round of 73 or better through two tournaments this season.
