Final Stats

Fullerton, Calif. - Skyler Thuresson scored two goals and Gabriel Farfan and Eugene Brooks each had a goal and an assist Saturday night as Cal State Fullerton beat UC Riverside, 4-2, in Big West Conference men's soccer action.

The win gives Fullerton a 5-6-1 overall record and its first Big West win in four tries (1-3-0) while UCR remains winless in its last seven matches to fall to 3-8-1 and 0-3-1.

The Highlanders overcame a 2-0 deficit in about five minutes of the second half as Andrew Villalobos scored in the 55th minute and Michael Galland tied the match in the 61st minute. Villalobos took a lead pass from Jeremy Clay and Galland volleyed a long free kick from Andrew Hills.

But the tie lasted only 16 seconds. Thuresson took a headed cross from Brooks and blasted a short shot that knocked UCR goalkeeper Charles Alamo down and into the net for a 3-2 Titans' lead. Farfan added the final score in the 77th minute when he booted in a loose ball in the goal mouth after Jacob Shumway's short free kick. Farfan had been pulled down a yard outside the right side of the box to set up the free kick.

Thuresson gave Fullerton a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute. Farfan beat a defender from the left perimeter and sent a soft cross to the right side where Thuresson blasted in a volley from just inside the box.

Brooks made it 2-0 when he split a pair of UCR defenders, beat them to a long through ball from Amir Shafii and then beat Alamo, who finished with 7 saves. Kevin Puder made 5 saves for the Titans, who outshot the visitors, 22-14, and had 10 cornerkicks to UCR's three.

Fullerton surpasses its overall victory total of last season (4-14-1) and equals the conference win total (1-9-0). The Titans last scored as many as four goals in a game on Oct. 13, 2004, in a 4-3 win over Cal State Northridge.
