Final Stats

Fullerton, Calif. - Skyler Thuresson headed in the first goal and Eugene Brooks added two more scores Sunday afternoon to give Cal State Fullerton a 3-0 non-conference men's soccer victory over the University of Maine.

The Titans improved to 3-3-1 on the season while the Black Bears fell to 0-8 after being outshot, 34-3. The Titans' win came in their home opener for first-year Head Coach Bob Ammann.

Thuresson, a 5-foot-7 junior from Long Beach, headed in a rebound off Maine goalkeeper Dereck Loisel in the 27th minute. Amir Shafii and Michael Farfan set up the score, which came on Fullerton's sixth corner kick of the first half.

Brooks took a long free kick from Farfan less than two minutes later and bounced the ball low past Loisel to make it 2-0. Brooks left-footed a volley from Jacob Shumway less than four minutes into the second half for the final tally.

Brent Douglas (66 minutes) and Kevin Puder (24 minutes) combined for the shutout in the Titan nets, but neither had to make a save.

Fullerton opens Big West Conference play Thursday night at 7 p.m. against perennially strong UC Santa Barbara.
