FULLERTON, Calif.- The Cal State Fullerton men's golf team completed play at the Southwestern Intercollegiate at the North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, Calif., on Tuesday. After finishing in 10th place after the first two-rounds, the Titans improved two slots in the final round to finish eighth in their opening tournament of 2014-15.


The Titans tallied a final score of 893 (+41) after firing a final round 13-over-par 297 on Tuesday afternoon. Stanford walked away with the victory with a score of 848 (-4), wrapping up the tournament as the only team to finish with an overall score under-par while being 15-strokes ahead of the nearest competitor.


The Cardinal shot a final round of 8-under-par 276 to run away with the title. Stanford was followed by Southern California (863, +11), Washington State (873, +21), San Diego State (876, +24) and UC Davis (880, +28) to round out the top-five. Stanford's Maverick McNealy used a 6-under-par 65 third round to garner the individual title at 10-under-par 203.


The tournament, hosted by Southern California, included six teams currently ranked in the top-75 by Golfstat.com, tournament champion Stanford at No. 3, No. 33 USC, No. 41 San Diego State, No. 64 UC Davis, No. 66 Cal State Fullerton and No. 71 San Diego.


Fullerton's Ryan Tetrault carded a third round 68 (-3), moving up 17 slots to finish tied for ninth place with an overall score of 3-over-par 216. The senior from Villa Park, Calif., used his final round on the links to record the only score under-par for the Titans over the two-day event. Tetrault captured his 13th top-10 finish over his career after sinking four birdies in the final back nine.


Fellow senior Josh Park chipped in a final score of 220 (+7) after a third round 2-over-par 73. Park climbed up two positions to conclude the tournament tied for 18th place. Park led the team with a total of 10 birdies.


Michael Choe posted a third round 7-over-par 78 to bring his total score to 225 (+12), good for a tie in 39th place. Choe's tournament was highlighted by two-eagles, both on the 15th-hole at the North Ranch Country Club, once in the second round Monday and once more in his final round on Tuesday. The junior was the only student-athlete among 72 golfers who recorded more than one eagle over the event.


Newcomer and Santiago Canyon College transfer Nico Mendoza made his Fullerton debut concluding the tournament with an overall score of 232 (+19), while shooting a third round 7-over-par 78. The Yorba Linda, Calif., native fell four slots to land in a tie for 58th in his first three-round tournament as a Titan.


Martin Manalo
completed the five-man rotation for Fullerton in team competition as the sophomore tallied an 85 (+14) in the final round to post an overall tally of 243 (+30), good for a tie in 69th place.


Freshman Mark Cobey also made his Titan debut, hitting the links as an individual participant and chalking up an overall score of 17-over-par 230, after a third round 81 (+10). The Woodland, Calif., native finished his first collegiate tournament in a tie for 55th in the standings.


The Titans will be back in action on Sept. 15-16 as they compete in the Saint Mary's Invitational in Seaside, Calif., at the Bayonet and Black Horse Courses.
