Titans Finish Day One in Second Place at Big West Championships

FULLERTON, Calif. - After one round of play at the Big West Championship tournament, the Cal State Fullerton men's golf team currently stands in second place after finishing one stroke behind leader Hawai'i on Sunday in San Jacinto, Calif.

The Titans shot a five-over par (293) in the first round and will begin day two behind Hawai'i who shot a 292 (+4). Long Beach State finished in third place after shooting a 297, finishing five strokes behind Hawai'i. Pacific shot a ten-over par (298) to finish in fourth place and last year's winner UC Davis rounds out the top five after shooting a 301 (+13).

Cal State Fullerton's Corey Gard and Hawai'i's Nainoa Calip share the individual lead after both shooting three-under par (69) on Sunday. Four players including Fullerton's Ryan Tetrault are tied for third place after shooting 72's (E) on Sunday.

Gard, who is tied for the individual lead, shot a 69 on Sunday after connecting on six birdies. The junior shot even on the front nine, but shot a three-under on the back nine to tie for the lead. Ryan Tetrault shot a 72 to tie for third place after shooting one eagle, four birdies, and four bogeys.

Mark Anguiano and Dakota Duerr finished the first round tied for 23rd place after both shooting four-over par (76). Josh Park shot a 77 (+5) and will begin the second round tied for 31st place.

Play at the Big West Championships continues tomorrow Monday (April 29) at 7:15 a.m. in San Jacinto, Calif at The Sobaba Country Club.
