Fullerton, Calif. - Bobby Brown scored 20 points to lead all five starters in double figures Thursday night as Cal State Fullerton defeated UC Davis, 81-63, in a non-conference game. David Carter led the Aggies with 19 points as they fell to 8-19.
Justin Burns had a double-double for the Titans (14-12) with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Jamaal Brown and Jermaine Harper each had 13 points and Frank Robinson had 12. Fullerton outrebounded the Aggies, 41-21, with Jamaal Brown getting 9 and Robinson 8 and shot a season-best .583 from the 3-point line, making 7 of 12 treys.
Fullerton took control of the game with a 16-6 run midway through the second half, shortly after Phil Rasmussen picked up his fourth personal foul for the Aggies. The surge put the Titans ahead, 62-49, with 9:19 to play. UC Davis got within 9 points at 62-53 but the Titans scored the next 9 points for a 71-53 lead with 5:39 to play.
The win guarantees the Titans at least a .500 season with one more regular season game and then the Big West Conference Tournament at the Anaheim Convention Center. UC Davis, which suited only 8 players, completes its season at UC Riverside on Saturday.
Fullerton wraps up the regular season on Sunday with another non-conference game against South Dakota State, which it defeated, 82-70, on Nov. 28 in Brookings. The Titans open play in the Big West Tournament at the Anaheim Convention Center on Wednesday night vs. either UC Riverside or Cal State Northridge.
