Red-Hot Titans Cruise Past Eastern Washington

Fullerton, Calif. - Bobby Brown scored 25 points and Jamaal Brown and Frank Robinson each contributed 16 points and 5 rebounds Saturday afternoon as Cal State Fullerton cruised to an 89-63 victory over Eastern Washington in a non-conference Bracket Buster game.

Freshman Rodney Stuckey had 19 points and a game-high 9 rebounds for the Eagles, who fell to 12-13 overall and saw their 4-game winning streak ended. Fullerton improved to 12-11 while evening its home record at 5-5.

The Titans shot a season's best .586 from the floor including 65.5 percent in the first half (19 of 29) when they built a 47-27 halftime lead.

Bobby Brown made 4 of 7 3-point field goals for the game including back-to-back treys for an early 8-4 lead that the Titans never surrendered. Brown, the school's career 3-point field goal record holder with 207, had made only 2 of his past 22 tries from behind the arc.,

Eastern Washington made only 3 of 15 3-point tries while Fullerton made 10 of 21.

EWU never got closer than 18 points in the second half. A Bobby Brown 3-pointer gave Fullerton its biggest lead at 77-49 with 9:15 to play.

Fullerton used a 15-0 run to build a 25-9 lead with 8:38 to go in the first half. EWU went more than 6 minutes without scoring. A 3-pointer by Matt Penoncello cut the deficit to single digits at 32-23 at 4:23 but Fullerton scored the next 11 points capped by a 3-pointer by Robinson and 3-point plays by Bobby Brown and Jerard Moret.

Fullerton wraps up its Big West Conference schedule next week with games at UC Santa Barbara on Thursday and at Cal Poly SLO on Saturday. Eastern Washington goes home for two big Big Sky Conference games against Montana and Montana State. The third-place Eagles trail second-place by Montana by one game and have a half-game lead over fourth-place Montana State.
