FULLERTON, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton came out with a big victory on Senior Night, sweeping (27-25, 25-17, 25-23) UC Riverside. The win snaps a four-match losing streak and gives the Titans their 12th win of the season, most since 2012.
Julia Crawford had a phenomenal night with a match-high 24 kills on a .400 hit percentage to go along with nine digs, just missing out on a double-double. Felicia Marshall came through with 10 kills while Tyler Fezzey had nine kills to go along with two solo blocks. Makenzi Abelman posted 42 assists on the night while Savahna Costello notched 20 digs.
The first set was a lot of back-and-forth between the Titans (12-13, 4-10 BWC) and Highlanders as neither side could get any strong momentum going. A good rally down the stretch from the Highlanders would force extra points, but CSF would come out on top with a 27-25 win.
The Titans dominated the second set as UCR (6-20, 2-13 BWC) posted a .000 hit percentage recording just seven kills allowing Fullerton to run away with it. A 5-0 scoring run towards the end would cement the Titans with a two sets to none lead as they came out with a 25-17 victory in the second set.
Looking for a sweep, Fullerton would come out of the gate slow in the third facing a 7-13 deficit midway through. However, the Titans would fight and claw their way back into it and a 7-2 scoring run down the final stretch would ultimately give them the 25-23 win as they walked out of Titan Gym with a victory on Senior Night.
The victory gave the Titans their fourth conference victory of the season, the most since the 2013 season.
Cal State Fullerton will wrap up their season next weekend with a pair of road matches as they head to UCSB and Cal Poly to close out the year.
