FULLERTON, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton women's volleyball is heading to Texas for the Wildcat Classic hosted by Abilene Christian University. The Titans will play three games in three days starting Thursday afternoon.
Fullerton is coming off a phenomenal weekend at the Windy City Invitational where they went a perfect 3-0 winning nine straight sets after dropping the first two in the opener. The team was named the 2019 Windy City Collegiate Volleyball Champions while Savahna Costello was named tournament MVP and Alicia Dennis was named to the All-Tournament team. Overall, the Titans are now 5-1 having won four straight matches.
Cal State Fullerton is off to a hot start this season and their defense is a big reason why. The team currently ranks first in the NCAA in total digs (479) and second in digs per set (20.83). Costello leads the way ranking 12th in total digs (133) and 18th in digs per set (5.78).
This entire weekend will be full of firsts as the Titans have not met any of their opponents in program history.
They kick off their weekend slate with the host Wildcats on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. PT. Abilene Christian enters the weekend with a 1-5 record coming off a four-set win over Prairie View A&M last Sunday.
Fullerton will then play North Texas on Friday at 1:00 p.m. PT. The Mean Green come into the weekend with the second best record at 2-4 having lost their last three matches.
The Titans close out the weekend PVAMU on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. PT. The Panthers are off to a slow start to the season with an 0-8 record through the first two weeks of the season.
