FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton's hot streak remained intact on Saturday evening as the Titans were victorious in a five-set (12-25, 28-26, 25-17, 16-25, 15-10) thriller against Wake Forest to conclude play at the Fullerton Classic presented by the Holiday Inn of La Mirada.

The Titans (5-2) are now riding a five-match win streak after finishing the tournament with an undefeated record of 4-0.

Fullerton Classic Most Valuable Player Alyse Hensley led the Titans with a double-double of 18 kills and 16 digs against Wake Forest (5-1) as CSF delivered the Demon Deacons their first loss of the season.

In addition to Hensley, McKenna Painton was named to the all-tournament team for Cal State Fullerton and she finished the night with 13 digs.

Bre Moreland added nine kills and a team-leading 23 digs, while Cal State Fullerton's middles had a successful evening. Leah Best scored 13 kills for the Titans, while Holland Crenshaw set a new career best with 10 kills in the match.

Junior Julie Consani achieved a new career high with 58 assists – her second 50-plus match of 2013.

Kristin Grissom and Matalee Reed led Wake Forest with 15 kills apiece as the Deacons attacked a rate of .236 and totaled a match-high 15 blocks.

Wake Forest jumped out to a commanding lead in the first set and never looked back en route to a 13-point margin of victory in the set. Reed led the charge with four kills, while the Demon Deacon defense totaled five blocks and 16 digs, holding Fullerton to a clip of .030 as Wake Forest attacked at a rate of .433.

With their 12-set win streak snapped, Fullerton responded in the second racing to an 11-6 advantage. The Titans were able to maintain a two-point cushion for the majority of the set, until the Demon Deacons evened the match at 24-24.

Fullerton was finally able to pull away for the 28-26 win after Hensley and Crenshaw combined for a stuff, and Moreland put away her fifth kill.

The Titans hit .318 in the second set as Hensley was unstoppable producing eight kills in the frame.

In the third set, Cal State Fullerton maintained its momentum attacking at a rate of .353 as Mallory Waggoner was responsible for five kills.

The Titans trailed just once in the third set and the defense held Wake Forest to a stifling .077 attacking percentage as the Demon Deacons committed eight errors.

In the fourth set, Fullerton could not block the Demon Deacons, who hit at a rate of .500 as Grissom registered six kills in the 25-16 win.

In the fifth and deciding set, Crenshaw led Fullerton with three kills, and Moreland was credited with the match winner as the Titans gained a 5-4 lead and did not trail the rest of the way.

The match featured a total of 12 lead changes and 29 tie scores.

Fullerton returns to action next week at the Lone Star Showdown hosted by Texas Tech, playing Nevada and Montana on Friday.

Cal State Fullerton extended its winning streak to four consecutive sweeps with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-17) victory over Gardner-Webb (3-5) at Titan Gym on day two of the Fullerton Classic presented by the Holiday Inn of La Mirada. 

Senior Alyse Hensley contributed a double-double of 10 kills and 10 digs, hitting at a clip of .471.

For the third straight match, Cal State Fullerton improved its hitting percentage, attacking at a rate of .356 (43-12-87) on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Bre Moreland and McKenna Painton recorded 12 digs apiece, while Julie Consani controlled the offense with 41 assists. The junior setter spread the attempts around as five Titans notched at least five kills (Hensley, 10; Leah Best, 9; Holland Crenshaw, 8; Moreland, 7; Mallory Waggoner, 6).

The Titan defense held Gardner-Webb to a .068 attacking percentage as the Bulldogs committed 22 errors.

Notes: After the 3-0 win over Gardner-Webb, the Titans swept four straight opponents for the first time since sweeping seven consecutive matches from Sept. 11-22, 2010...Cal State Fullerton has now  won five straight matches for the first time since producing a five-match win streak from Sept. 29-Oct. 19, 2012…Fullerton's 12-set win streak was snapped by Wake Forest in the first set with a 25-12 loss…Fullerton's 12 points in the first set marked a season low and the lowest set total for Fullerton since losing a set 25-12 to Hawai'i on Sept. 22, 2012...Holland Crenshaw's 10 kills against Wake Forest set a new career high…Julie Consani's 58 assists vs. Wake Forest also set a new career high.
