Fullerton Edges Davis In Five

DAVIS, Calif. – Senior Kayla Neto hammered home a match and season high 27 kills on Saturday night as the Titans  ended a six-match skid with a 3-2 (28-26, 19-25, 22-25, 25-16, 15-11) victory over UC Davis at The Pavilion.

Neto hit at a clip of .253 for the evening and added 16 digs and three blocks assists as the Titans (7-10, 1-3) were able to earn their first win in Big West play.

After giving up a 2-1 set lead to Pacific on Friday night, CSF made a comeback Saturday night with wins in the match's final two games while hitting at clips of .289 (game 4) and .308 (game 5).

Senior Kaylynne Taeatafa guided the Titan offense with a match-high 57 assists as four players reached double-figure kills including Bre Moreland (15), Leah Best (12) and Lauren Kissell (11).

CSF also was helped by its defense which totaled 11 blocks as Best and Holland Crenshaw assisted on five stuffs apiece. Senior Gabrielle Dewberry recorded a season and match-high 31 digs, while also notching her second 30-dig game of 2012.

UC Davis (8-8, 2-1) was led by Allison Whitson's 24 kills and 10 digs, while Devon Damelio also added a double-double of 13 kills and 16 digs.

CSF also dropped six service aces in the matches.

Cal State Fullerton will remain on the road to play UC Riverside at 7 p.m., Saturday.

Notes: Cal State Fullerton is now 1-3 in five-set matches in 2012…with the win, CSF snapped a six-match losing streak…Kayla Neto recorded her eighth double-double of the season…Bre Moreland recorded her ninth double-double of 2012.
