Big West All-Conference Awards 2019
FULLERTON, Calif.- Cal State Fullerton women's tennis claims three Big West All-Conference honors on Wednesday for the 2019 Campaign.
Cal State Fullerton is one of the only two teams placing two players in the Big West All-Conference Singles First Team.
Karla Portalatin and Sarah Nuno were key players for the Titans this season in both doubles and singles. The two seniors paired up in doubles for most of the season at No.1. The pair led the team in doubles with a 14-7 overall record and also dominated the Big West with a 5-1 record.
The duo of Portalatin and Nuno were already claimed a spot on the honorable mentions in 2017 and on the Big West First Team for the 2018 season. For their last season, the two Titans were able to make it on the All-Conference Doubles First Team for their second consecutive year.
Karla Portalatin played an important role in the success of the Titans this season. Portalatin finished the season with a 13-11 overall record (4-2 Big West). In Duals, she played most of her matches at No.1 where she went 8-8 and finished the season undefeated at No.2 with a 2-0 record.
Portalatin was named in the All-Conference Singles First Team for her junior year in 2018. For her senior year, Portalatin was named in the All-Big West Conference team for the second consecutive year.
Like Portalatin, Sarah Nuno was part of these last four historic record-breaking seasons with the Titans. Nuno finished the 2019 campaign with a 14-7 overall record. In conference play, Nuno owned an impressive 6-2 record. Since the start of dual matches, Nuno played most of the matches at No.2 where she went 12-3. She played a pair of matches at No.1 with a win and a loss.
Sarah Nuno earned a spot on the 2018 Big West Singles First Team. Sarah Nuno was just named on the Singles First team for the second consecutive year.
Genevieve Zeidan was the first ever Titan to be named Big West Freshman of the Year in 2018 and was also named on the Big West Singles First team. This season, Zeidan was able to compile 12 wins for 9 losses. Zeidan was impressive in dual matches as she went 9-3 including a 4-1 record in Big West Conference play. She played most of her matches at No.3 where she went 8-2 and played a pair of matches at No.2 with one win and one loss.
Genevieve Zeidan was named in the Big West Singles Second Team for 2019 for the second consecutive year.
Cal State Fullerton finished the season with an impressive 15-6 record. The Titans finished their Big West campaign with six wins and only two losses to finish with the highest seed in program history. Fullerton entered the Big West tournament as the No.2 seed. The Titans won their Quarterfinals against CSUN for the third consecutive year. The Titans fell short against Long Beach State in the Semifinals.
