SAN DIEGO --- Cal State Fullerton continued its historic start to the 2017 season with a 4-3 victory at San Diego on Sunday afternoon.

The Titans have started the season 4-0 for the first time in program history, and in addition scored a victory over the Toreros (1-1) for the first time in the last 11 meetings between the two programs dating back to 2006.

For the fourth time this season, Fullerton won the doubles point, but by the narrowest of margins, as Masako Makiba and Danielle Pham's 7-6 (5) defeat of Gemma Garcia and Katharina Kukaras at No. 3 clinched the point.

The doubles team of Camille De Leon and Alexis Valenzuela improved to 3-0 with a 6-4 victory over Colomba DiFilippo and Daniela Morales at No. 1 in the order to help the Titans claim the doubles point.

In singles play, Fullerton had to fight from behind as San Diego won the first three matches at No. 5, No. 6 and No. 3 in the order to take a 3-1 advantage.

Sophomore Sarah Nuno scored the first singles win for the Titans at No. 4 in the lineup, defeating Maria-Paula Torres 6-2, 7-6 (4).

Valenzuela then evened the score at 3-3 with her 6-2, 7-5 victory at the top of the order against Garcia. The senior is now 4-0 on the season.

De Leon clinched the fourth and winning point for Fullerton with a come-from-behind 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 win against Nicole Anderson in the No. 2 spot.

The Titans remain on the road and play at San Francisco on Friday and Santa Clara on Saturday.
