FULLERTON, Calif. --- Cal State Fullerton improved to 3-0 on the season as the Titans defeated San Diego State, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon at the Aztec Center.
The 3-0 start is the first for Fullerton in program history, while in addition, the Titans have defeated the Aztecs for two straight seasons after dropping the first 29 meetings between the two programs in the all-time series.
Fullerton was able to clinch the doubles points with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
The team of Sarah Nuno and Karla Portalatin improved to 3-0 on the year after defeating Kennedy Davis and Paola Diaz, 6-2, at No. 2 in the order.
At No. 3 doubles, Masako Makiba and Danielle Pham won their second straight with a 6-3 decision against Olivia Larsson and Alli Valk to clinch the doubles point for Fullerton.
Portalatin put the Titans ahead 2-0 as she dispatched Valk, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 4 singles, remaining undefeated this season.
Pham won her second straight with a 6-2, 6-2 defeat of Berta Acero at the bottom of the order as the Titans took a 3-0 lead.
Alexis Valenzuela's 6-2, 6-4 victory at the top of the order over Jana Buth clinched the 4-0 victory for Fullerton. Valenzuela is now 3-0 in singles play this season.
The Titans return to action at San Diego on Sunday with the match slated to start at 11 a.m.
