FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton ended its regular season by defeating UC Riverside, 6-1, on Thursday afternoon at the Titan Tennis Courts.
The Titans finish the regular season with an overall record of 11-13, the most wins for the program since the 2004 team completed the year with 12 victories. In addition, the Titans ended the season with a record of 4-5 in Big West Conference play, the best mark for the team since the league started round-robin play in 2006.
The Titans entered the week at eighth in the Big West standings, and will learn their seed for the Big West Championships following the end of regular season play on Sunday as Hawai'i and UC Irvine will square off.
The Big West Tennis Championship begins on Thursday at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, Calif.
Fullerton clinched the doubles point over UC Riverside (1-15, 0-9) with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds.
Senior Tiffany Mai, playing her final match at the Titan Tennis Courts, defeated Jamie Raney, 6-1, 6-0, to lead the Titans at the No. 1 position in the lineup.
In addition to partnering with Kalika Slevcove for a doubles win, junior Morgan McIntosh swept Taylor Raney, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 2 spot.
Also playing her final match at the Titan Tennis Courts, senior Monica Rodriguez defeated Natalie McKay, 6-0, 7-6, at No. 4. Redshirt sophomore Megan Sandford was victorious at No. 5 in the lineup with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Courtney Pattugalan.
To round out the lineup, freshman Rebekkah Ermac defeated Kate Bergeson, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 6.
Prior to the match, Fullerton honored Mai, Rodriguez and fellow seniors Avriel Tomaiko and Malorie de la Cruz.
