Cal State Fullerton (6-4, 2-1 Big West) enters the week on a five-match winning streak, the program's longest since 2007. On Wednesday, senior Tiffany Mai was named the Big West Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week after winning two singles matches at the top of the lineup, as well as one doubles contest last week.
In addition to Mai and junior Morgan McIntosh at the top of the lineup, underclassmen Kalika Slevcove (6-2) and Emilia Borkowski (7-3) have played significant roles in Fullerton's recent success. The Titans have also benefited from redshirt sophomore Megan Sandford (5-2) returning to the lineup in 2013. Currently, four regular members of the Titans' lineup are entering the week on winning streaks: Sanford (5), McIntosh (3), Borkowski (2) and Mai (2).
Last Time Out
Cal State Fullerton's 6-1 victory over New Mexico State last Friday afternoon at the Titan Tennis Courts, propelled CSF's winning streak to five consecutive matches.
The Titans have not won five straight matches since the 2007 season. With the loss, the Lobos fall to 1-3.
Fullerton improved 6-4 overall on Friday, with five players in the lineup winning singles matches, led by senior Tiffany Mai. At the top of the lineup, the native of Westminster, Calif., quickly defeated Jodie Williams of New Mexico State 6-0, 6-0.
Her victory was followed by three more as the top four players in the Titan lineup each recorded wins.
Junior Morgan McIntosh won her third match in a row with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Denise Van Der Ben. Monica Rodriguez defeated Ginet Pinero, 6-2, 6-0, for her second win of 2013, and Emilia Borkowski finished off Annemieke Witte 6-2, 6-4 to improve to 7-3 this year.
At the No. 6 spot, Megan Sandford won her fifth straight match, defeating Lisa Roslanova, 6-0, 6-4.
In doubles play, the team of Kalika Slevcove and McIntosh defeated Pinero and Witte, 8-3, while Borkowksi and Sandford teamed to knock off Mia Brandy and Ros-Polly Nguyen, 8-5.
Opponents
Nevada travels to Southern California this week to play Loyola Marymount (Thursday), UC Riverside (Friday), and the Titans on Saturday. The Wolf Pack (1-3) defeated Montana, 6-1, in their last match but opened the season with losses to BYU (5-2), Idaho (4-3) and Washington State (5-2).
Boston College debuted in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings at No. 51 this week. The Eagles are currently 5-0 with wins over Dartmouth (5-2), Syracuse (4-3), Maryland (4-3), Brown (5-2) and Harvard (4-3).
