Titans Set to Host Thunderbirds and Wahine

FULLERTON, Calif. – Winners in two of their last three matches, the Titans return to action on Saturday, hosting Southern Utah at Titan Courts with the start time set for 2 p.m.

Cal State Fullerton (2-4, 1-1) will then return to Big West action on Wednesday, hosting 61st-ranked Hawai'i at 2 p.m.

Cal State Fullerton enters this week with a 2-4 overall record and 1-1 mark in the Big West Conference. Last week, freshman Emilia Borkowski improved to 5-1 in singles play with a pair of singles wins. The La Crescenta, Calif., native was moved up two spots to No. 4 in the lineup, and proved victorious in both of her efforts. She defeated Eva Rodriguez of No. 39 Long Beach State on Jan. 31, before helping the Titans to a 4-3 win at Cal State Northridge on Saturday with a 7-6 (5), 6-2 defeat of Lorraine Cheung. As the Matadors split singles play with the Titans last Saturday, it was CSF that claimed the doubles point to clinch the match win. Borkowski partnered with Megan Sandford to defeat Alexis Marquez and Jessica Warren, 9-8, (3). 

Sophomore Kalika Slevcove is the only other Titan with  a winning dual match record of 4-1 in singles play.

Last Time Out
The bottom of the Titan lineup in both singles and doubles play was victorious to help Fullerton edge Cal State Northridge, 4-3, last Saturday afternoon at the Matador Tennis Complex.

It was Fullerton's first Big West victory of the 2013 season as the Titans improved to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in league play

The top of Cal State Northridge's lineup won its three matches, but Cal State Fullerton picked up three wins in the bottom half.

The match was decided in doubles play as Morgan McIntosh and Kalika Slevcove partnered to edge Maria Pistalu and Lorraine Cheung, 9-8. (4) at the No. 2 spot. Emilia Borkowski and Megan Sandford then teamed for a 9-8 (3) win over Jessica Warren and Alexis Marquez as the Titans clinched the doubles point.

Southern Utah
Southern Utah University is on a three-match road swing, which includes matches at Cal State Northridge, Cal State Fullerton and UC Riverside.

The Thunderbirds will enter the matches having earned a victory in their 2013 opener with a 7-0 decision at Dixie State. 

Hawai'i
Hawai'i holds an all-time advantage of 19-4 against Cal State Fullerton. The last meeting between the two programs was a 7-0 win by the Rainbow Wahine on Feb. 5, 2011 in Fullerton. Hawai'i enters the week with a 1-3 overall record and a 1-0 mark in the Big West with a 5-2 win over Cal Poly.
