SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton women's tennis team opened its season on the road, falling in contests to No. 48 San Diego, 5-2, and San Diego State, 6-1, on Saturday.
At the Hogan Tennis Center on the campus of USD, the top four in Fullerton's singles lineup could not claim a win, but sophomore Kalika Slevcove (No. 5) and freshman Emilia Borkowski (No. 6) were able to pick up victories. Slevcove won the first set 7-5, before defeating Cara Brown by default in the second set. Borkowski dismissed Mikayla Morkel-Brink, 6-4, 6-1.
Slevcove wasn't done, the native of Newport Beach, Calif., then defeated Dora Somocracz (SDSU), 6-3, 7-5 in the No. 5 spot to score Fullerton's only point in the match the against Aztecs at the Aztec Tennis Center.
The Titans return to action on Tuesday on the campus of Cal State Fullerton to host San Jose State at noon.
Notes: After missing the 2012 season with an injury, sophomore Megan Sandford returned to action in doubles play on Saturday, partnering in the No. 3 spot with Borkowski.
