Position: Assistant Coach (2nd Season)

Cal State Fullerton softball pitching coach Tori Tyson enters her second season with the program as the former captain of the 2011 Nebraska Cornhuskers immediately made an impact on the Titan pitching staff last season.

In her first year with the Titans, coach Tyson and her pitching staff put up video game-like numbers posting a 2.22 team ERA, 23 complete games and 13 shutouts in 410 innings pitched. The team ERA and number of shutouts were the best since the 2007 season.

Titans Sydney Golden and Desiree Ybarra benefited mightily from Tyson joining the coaching staff as they were named Big West Freshman Pitcher of the Year and Big West Pitcher of the Year.

Golden was only the second Fullerton player to receive the honor in program history as she finished the year with a 17-5 record while posting the second-lowest ERA in the conference at 1.79. The freshman also logged 71 strikeouts and walked only 21, while picking up two shutouts and nine complete games over 125.1 innings of work.

Fifth-year senior Ybarra posted a 1.80 ERA over 35 games and logged 151.1 innings of work while striking out 133 batters and walking just 55 to finish the year with a 15-6 record. The Riverside native was dominant against Big West opponents as she went 8-1 against conference foes with a 1.58 ERA in 62 innings pitched, while having six complete games as well. Ybarra was the first Titan to be named Big West Pitcher of the Year since 2003.

Before coming to Fullerton, Tyson served as an assistant coach at Bethune Cookman for the 2014 season. Tyson helped guide the Wildcats to 19 victories during the season and the pitching staff posted a 3.94 ERA under her tutelage. She also produced the 2015 Mid-Eastern Conference Pitcher of the Year who posted 19 wins and a 3.61 ERA in 256.0 innings.

Prior to her time there, Tyson was an assistant coach at Doane College in Crete, Neb. and helped lead the Tigers to a 25-22 overall record and a 13-5 mark in league play.

A 2012 graduate of the University of Nebraska, Tyson played three years of softball with the Cornhuskers and pitched in her first two seasons at Nebraska. Tyson made made an appearance in the 2009 NCAA Regional for the Cornhuskers. She made 47 starts in 2010 and served as a team captain during the 2011 season when she played in the outfield.

Tyson spent her summers from 2009-2014 assisting with the 16U Corona Angels, who most recently placed second at the Colorado Sparkler (2014) and fifth at the 16U PGF National Championships (2014 Premier Division), earning a 2015 returning berth. She also worked directly with the likes of LHP Danielle O'Toole who went on to earn 2013 Mountain West Freshman of the Year and 2013 All-Mountain West Team at San Diego State, and pitcher Samantha Manti who has verbally committed to Washington for 2016.
