TEMPE, Ariz. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans lost 5-2 against the #8 Arizona State Sun Devils on Friday night in their opening game of the NCAA Regionals.

The Cal State Fullerton Titans made their return to the NCAA Regionals for the 30th time in history, first time in three seasons, and second time at the Tempe Regional hosted by Arizona State

It was a very close game for most of the game as it was a pitchers duel between Myka Sutherlin and Mac Morgan for the first couple innings of the game.

The Titans actually outhit the Sun Devils 7-to-5.  But ASU got two big hits when it mattered and scored all five of their runs on home runs. Megan Delgadillo led the team by going 2-for-4 from the dish.  Jessi Alcala, Daisy Munoz, Hannah Becerra, Kika Ramirez, and Deshea Hill all had knocks in the game.

Arizona State took the lead in the third inning on a leadoff solo home run by Yannira Acuna

After leaving 5 men on base in the previous innings, the Titans finally broke the deadlock in the sixth inning.  Jessi Alcala led the inning off with a base hit.  Hannah Becerra was hit by a pitch to put two runners on. Alyssa Hernandez grounded out to second to put both runners in scoring position.  After having a hard hit ball to the pitcher in the previous inning, Deshea Hill singled up the middle to score two runs to give the Titans a 2-1 lead

However, the lead was short lived as ASU took the lead in the bottom of the sixth on a grand slam to make it a 5-2 game.  The Devils got three runners on via an error and two walks.  Pinch hitter Kristiana Watson swatted a full count pitch over the right center fence.

Myka Sutherlin drew the start and tossed a quality start tossing five innings, allowing 3 runs (two earned) on three hits, 4 walks, 2 hit batters, and striking out three.  Raci Miranda pitched one inning allowing two runs on two hits, one walk, and one strikeout.

The Titans will play in the elimination game on Saturday against LSU after San Diego State defeated LSU 10-5 in the first game of the regional.  First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 or at least thirty minutes after the conclusion of the Arizona State-San Diego State game.

NOTES: Megan Delgadillo stole her 48th base of the season in the third inning.  She has set the new All-Time Big West Stolen Base Record in a single season set by Dionne Anderson in 2014.
