Softball Set for 30th NCAA Regional Appearance

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton is heading to the Tempe hosted by the No. 8 National Seed, Arizona State University, to make their 30th NCAA Regional appearance. The Titans will be the fourth seed facing off against the host Arizona State at 7:30 p.m. on Friday to open up the weekend.

The Titans are coming off a series win over Long Beach State over the weekend that clinched their 13th Big West Title. They finished the regular season with a 36-20 record overall and 20-7 in conference.

As a team, Fullerton hit .307 with 39 home runs and 296 runs scored. The lineup is led by the Big West Field Player of the Year, Megan Delgadillo, who has a .396 average for the season. The sophomore also is 4th in the nation in stolen bags (47) and 9th in the country in hits (47). Jessi Alcala, named to the All-Big West First Team is second on the team with a .380 batting average. Alcala has 35 RBIs, 24 Runs, and 6 home runs.  Peyton Toto, another Big West All-First Team member is batting .367 for the season. She has 33 RBIs, 24 Runs, and 4 home runs all despite being two weeks of the season.  Daisy Munoz named to the All-Big West Second Team is batting .335 for the season. She leads the team with 10 home runs and 48 RBIs. Hannah Becerra was named to the All-Big West Second Team as well. Becerra is batting .310 with 48 runs, 36 RBIs, and 8 home runs. She also led the conference with 43 walks. Antuanett Dean is batting .322 and was given Honorable Mention honors. She is second the team with 20 steals.

In the circle, the Titan pitching staff sports a 3.46 ERA with a .252 opponent batting average and 324 strikeouts in 370.2 innings of work. Myka Sutherlin leads the pitching staff with a 15-6 record. She has a .250 ERA in 134.2 innings and has struck out 143 batters. Sutherlin tossed a No-Hitter earlier this season against Bakersfield and also picked up huge wins over a ranked Arizona and a ranked Northwestern. Raci Miranda is the other main starter and went 11-6 in her freshman season. She has a 2.93 ERA in 112.1 innings pitched and struck out 87 batters. She was named to the All-Big West Freshman team.

Fullerton's first opponent will be the Arizona State University Sun Devils. They won the PAC-12 Title outright with a 39-9 overall record and a 20-4 conference record.   

The Sun Devils are batting .320 as a team with five starters batting above .300 and have hit 94 home runs as a team.  They are 4th in the nation in slugging with a .627 slugging percentage. They are led by their newly minted Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, Cydney Sanders who leads the team with a .420 batting average along with 48 runs, 20 HRs, and 61 RBIs. Yannira Acuna is batting .413 with 57 runs, 12 HRs, and 37 RBIs. Alynah Torres (.360), Jazmyn Hill (.333), Savannah Price (.333), and Emily Cazares (.320) are above 300. 

In the circle they are led by Lindsay Lopez (12-3, 1.75 ERA), Marissa Schuld (1.96 ERA, 9-2), and Mac Morgan (2.69 ERA, 16-3).  

The other two teams in the regional will play the game before the Titans and the Sun Devils on Friday evening.  The No. 2 LSU Tigers and the No. 3 San Diego State Aztecs.  The Titans haven't played the LSU Tigers since 2015.  The Titans previously beat the Mountain West Champs, the San Diego State Aztecs in February during the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic.
