Game 1 Box Score | Game 2 Box Score

FULLERTON, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton rallied from last night's narrow defeat to comeback and win two games against UC San Diego on Saturday at Anderson Family Field.

The Titans won the first game of the day in a pitchers duel and prevailed 1-0 in extras.  In the second game, the Titans took a commanding lead early and held on the rest of the game en route to a 6-0 win.

GAME 1, Cal State Fullerton 1, UC San Diego (8 Innings)

The Titans prevailed in extras in the first game of the day in a fantastic pitchers duel between two freshman pitchers in Raci Miranda and Jada Cecil.

Raci Miranda pitched the best game of her career in a complete game shutout of the Tritons.  Miranda tossed all 8 innings allowing 5 hits, 4 walks, and struck out a new career-high in 7 batters.  UC San Diego went for the series win in Game 2 by tossing their ace Cecil and she pitched a stellar 7 scoreless frames allowing 5 hits, 0 walks, and striking out 9.

The Titans outhit the Tritons 8-to-5 for the first game. Daisy Munoz and Jessi Alcala had multi-hit games.  Deena Pederson was 3-for-3 for UCSD with 3 stolen bags.

Raci Miranda pitched out of damage multiple times as UCSD was able to put a runner in scoring position in six of the eight innings played.

The Titans had a great opportunity to finish the game off in regulation after loading the bases in the bottom of the seventh inning.  Daisy Munoz and Deshea Hill led the inning off with back-to-back knocks.  Jessi Alcala singled to load the bases with one out.  But a strikeout and a hard hit lineout ended the frame for the Titans in the 7th.

Finally in the 8th inning, the Titans were able to close it out as UCSD took Cecil out of the game and brought in Kaia Simpson.

Evelyn Sablan led the inning off with a pinch hit single to the shortstop.  Megan Delgadillo had a bunt single.  Hannah Becerra was intentionally walked to load the bases.  After a tough day at the plate last night, Daisy Munoz responded in a big way with the game winning single that was ripped down the 3B line to score Sablan.

GAME 2, Cal State Fullerton 6, UC San Diego 0

The Titans took a big lead early in the game and coasted for the rest of the game as they won the second game of the doubleheader 6-0 and won the series over UC San Diego.

After seeing Kaia Simpson in the previous two games the Titans were ready for her at the start of Game 3.

Megan Delgadillo led the inning off by reaching base on an error.  Hannah Becerra walked to put two runners on.  After getting the game winning hit 30 minutes beforehand, Daisy Munoz ripped a double to score Delgadillo and Becerra and give the TItans a 2-0 lead.

Deshea Hill and Kika Ramirez both got on base with one out in the inning to load the bases.  The Tritons pulled Simpson after getting just one out in the inning.

Jessi Alcala greeted the new pitcher with a bases clearing double to left center to make it a 5-0 game in the first inning.

After that big first inning, the Titans would only manage three more hits until the sixth inning when they added an insurance run.  Antuanett Dean led the inning off by reaching on a dropped third strike passed ball.  Delgadillo also reached on a bunt single and the TItans had runners on 3rd and 2nd.  Daisy Munoz singled through the right side to score Dean but Delgadillo was thrown out at home.  Munoz picked up her 4th RBI of the day on that one.

Myka Sutherlin pitched another gem as she tossed a complete game and allowed two hits, one walk, and struck out eight.

The Titans next five games will be on the road.  Beginning with a midweek game against Loyola Marymount on Tuesday at 5:00 pm.  They head to UC Santa Barbara next weekend and finish the road trip off with a midweek game at UCLA the following Wednesday.
