Softball Takes Series over UC Davis

Game 3 Box

DAVIS, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's softball team won the rubber match on Sunday afternoon and defeated the UC Davis Aggies

2-0 at La Rue Field.

The Titans improve to 17-12 (2-1 BWC) for the season while the Aggies fall to (12-13, 1-2 BWC).

The Titans were led by a complete game shutout effort by Myka Sutherlin. Sutherlin tossed 7 innings allowing just 3 hits, 2 walks, and fanned 7 batters. For the weekend, Sutherlin allowed 0 earned runs in 13 innings of work. She allowed just seven hits, 5 walks, and had 13 strikeouts.

The Titans struck first against the Aggies pitcher, Kenedi Brown in the first inning. Megan Delgadillo led the inning off with an infield single and she got to second on a wild pitch and third on an errant throw by the catcher. Hannah Becerra flared one into right center to bring Delgadillo home for the first run.

Sutherlin escaped jams in the 1st and 2nd innings to keep the Aggies off the board.

The Titans added another run in the top of the 7th inning. After Deshea Hill had a single through the left side and Payton Kelly ran for her.

Peyton Toto hit a bomb over the LF fence for what should've been a 2-run homerun. However, the runners were confused on what the umpire signaled
on whether it was a home run or a catch and unfornuately for the Titans, Peyton Toto and Payton Kelly crossed each other. Which resulted in
Payton Kelly's run being allowed to score and Toto given an RBI single and being out on the play.

However, it was all the run support Sutherlin needed as she finished the complete game effort in the 7th inning to give the TItans the series win.

The Titans remain on the road as they head to Bakersfield next week for a three-game set. They play a doubleheader on Saturday before finishing out the series on Sunday.
