Softball Rallies Late in Win over Weber State

WEBER STATE BOX SCORE

FULLERTON, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans softball team scored seven runs in the sixth inning in an 8-5 comeback win over the Weber State Wildcats to finish out the Judi Garman Classic on Sunday afternoon.

The Titans (13-7) were trailing the Wildcats (16-4) by a score of 4-1 heading into the sixth inning.  They scored seven runs off six hits to pull off the comeback win.

The Titans couldn't get much going against Arissa Henderson of Weber State.  But once the Wildcats changed pitchers, the Titans were able to respond with seven runs and six hits.

Myka Sutherlin drew the start and pitched two innings allowing four runs (three earned).  Alexia Silvas picked up the win in relief by tossing 5 innings and allowing just one run on two hits, five walks, and three strikeouts.

Weber State went ahead early and led 4-0 after two home runs to start the game.

The Titans got one run back in the fifth inning after loading the bases.  They scored one run after Hannah Becerra was hit by a pitch but couldn't push across another run with one out in the inning.

Finally in the sixth inning, the bats awoke for the Titans against the Wildcats bullpen.  Jessi Alcala and Alyssa Hernandez led the inning off with hits.  Alexa Neil would drive one in on a single up the middle.  Evelyn Sablan came in clutch to pinch hit in the 9-spot and doubled to left center to tie the game.

Hannah Becerra hit a ball over the rightfielders head to plate the go-ahead run.

Daisy Munoz had a productive out after a tough ground ball to second base where the second baseman made a diving play.  Hannah Becerra would come around to score on a wild pitch before Jessi Alcala picked up her second hit of the inning after legging out an infield single.

The Wildcats made things interested in the end after scoring once and threatening more with bases loaded. But Silvas was able to pitch out of the inning and secure the win for the Titans.

Before going into their final pre-season conference tournament, the Titans will host both the University of Penn and Boston University on Tuesday night for a double-header.  The Titans play against Penn at 4:00 PM and against Boston at 6:00 PM.
