KANSAS BOX SCORE | FRESNO STATE BOX SCORE

FULLERTON, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans softball team opened up the tournament with two wins over Kansas and Fresno State on Thursday night at Anderson Family Field.

GAME 1 - Cal State Fullerton 12, Kansas 11

The Titans won in walk-off fashion in an ugly 12-11 win over Kansas.  Despite out hitting Kansas for most of the game, it was Kansas who held the lead for most of the game until a long fifth inning gave the Titans the lead that they nearly choked up.

The game was marred with walks, errors, and metal errors aplenty.  In fitting fashion, the Titans won the game on a walk-off error.

The Titans pitching staff allowed 9 walks for the game.  Raci Miranda drew the start and allowed six runs on four hits, four walks, and three strikeouts.  Alexia Silvas picked up the win and allowed three runs on two hits and three walks.

The Kansas pitching staff allowed just two walks but they were undone by five defensive errors.

The Titans had to play from behind from the first inning after a 3-run home run gave Kansas an early lead.

The Titans were trying to chip away by scoring in the 1st and 4th inning. Deshea Hill singled to center field to score Hannah Becerra.  Both would pick up hits again in the fourth inning before Jessi Alcala singled in a run.

Kansas blew the lead open, 8-2, in the fifth inning by scoring four runs on just two hits and a ton of walks.

The Titans would respond with a 9-spot of their own to take the lead.  Alexa Neal, Antuanett Dean, and Megan Delgadillo led the inning off three straight hits.  Hannah Becerra walked to bring in a run.  Deshea Hill scored one on a fielder's choice.  Daisy Munoz doubled in one run.   Alyssa Hernandez had a single drop into shallow left center.

The real chaos began when Bailey Wallace reached on a fielding error by the second baseman.  The second basemen then threw the ball away that ended up going three runs to take a 9-8 lead.  Antuanett Dean would single in a run before Hannah Becerra had a sac fly for the second out of the inning. Antuanett Dean and Alexa Neil would also score to finish out the inning.  The Titans sent 13 batters to the dish and scored 9 runs off 7 hits, and 3 errors.

Kansas tied the game at 11-11 in the seventh inning.  The Titans eventually walked it off in the bottom of the seventh after Daisy Munoz scored Hannah Becerra on an error by the third baseman.

GAME 2 - Cal State Fullerton 5, Fresno State 0

The Titans once again outhit their opponents in this one but it was mainly a pitcher's duel for most of the game.

Myka Sutherlin picked up her fourth win in the circle and tossed 6 scoreless innings allowing just two hits and striking out five.  Staci Chambers threw a scoreless inning of relief.  Cassidy West took the loss for Fresno after allowing five runs (two earned) in 5.2 innings of work along with 8 strikeouts.  The Titans pitching staff allowed zero walks in this game.

The Titans took the lead in the third inning when Megan Delgadillo led the inning off with a base hit.  She would come around to score on a Daisy Munoz single up the middle.

The Titans doubled their lead in the fifth inning after Deshea Hill had a one out triple. It was Hill's first triple of her career. Daisy Munoz would drive her in in the next at-bat on a double off the LF fence to make it a 2-0 game.

The Titans added three more in the sixth inning after some sloppy play from the Bulldogs.  Alexa Neil led the inning off with a base hit.  She scored on the next play on a sac bunt by Anaiya Mitchell after a throwing error by the second basemen allowed Neal to score from first base on the play.

Delgadillo would eventually reach on an error before Hannah Beccera deposited her sixth home of the season over the CF fence.

The Titans return to Anderson Family Field tomorrow for just one game.  They take on Utah at 7:30 pm.
