ARIZONA BOX SCORE | SAN DIEGO STATE BOX SCORE

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans softball team had an excellent start to the Mary Nutter Classic on Thursday as they defeated #8/#10 Arizona, 1-0 and San Diego State, 7–4.

This is first Titans win over a Top 10 opponent since defeating #3 UCLA a NCAA Regional game in 2018.  Their last win in the regular season over a Top-10 opponent was in 2014 when they defeated #2 Oklahoma.

GAME 1 - CAL STATE FULLERTON 1, ARIZONA 0

Myka Sutherlin pitched an absolute gem as she tossed a complete game 10 K shutout against the Wildcats to pick up her second win of the season.

It was a pitching duel between Sutherlin and Madi Eilish for the Wildcats.  Sutherlin allowed 4 hits, 4 walks, and punched out 10 batters. Eilish allowed six hits, one run, and had six strikeouts for Arizona.

Sutherlin showed her composure multiple times as Arizona had a runner in scoring position in the first, fourth, sixth, and seventh innings.  Sutherlin escaped a bases loaded no outs jam in the fourth inning after she started the inning off with two walks and a hit batter. She got a strikeout, pop up, strikeout to end the threat.

In the seventh inning, Arizona came painstakingly close to tying the game up.  After a hit batsman and a single with one out put two runners on board.  Jasmine Perezchica had a base hit to CF but Megan Delgadillo nailed the runner trying to score from second on a perfect throw to Jessi Alcala for the second out.

After that, Sutherlin was able to strikeout Arizona's #3 hitter Sharlize Palacios with a full count to end the game.

The Titans took the lead in the sixth inning after back-to-back hits from Hannah Becerra and Deshea Hill.

GAME 2 - CAL STATE FULLERTON 7, SAN DIEGO STATE 3

The Titans took the lead early in the game and were able to hold on for the entire game.

The Titans had 10 hits for the game with Megan Delgadillo leading the way with 3 hits, 2 runs, 1 RBI, and 2 stolen bases.  Hannah Becerra had 1 HR with 2 runs and 2 RBIs.  Daisy Munoz and Jessi Alcala each picked up two RBIs.

Alexia Silvas picked up the win in relief of Raci Miranda.  Miranda started and went 3.1 innings allowing just one run on four hits and three walks. Silvas tossed 3.2 innings allowing just two runs on five hits and striking out three.

The Titans took the lead in the third inning when Hannah Becerra swatted her fifth home of the season over the CF fence.

They put up a 5-spot in the fifth inning off five hits.  Evelyn Sablan set the tone of the inning with a leadoff base hit.  After two groundouts.  Megan Delgadillo singled in a run to make it a 3-1 game.

Becerra walked and Deshea Hill singled to the shortstop to load the bases.  Daisy Munoz smacked a double off the fence to drive in two.

Jessi Alcala had an infield base hit down the right line that scored two more to make it 7-1.

The Aztecs hit a 2-run homerun in the seventh but after that Silvas was able to get a flyout to end the game.

The Titans take on the #1 ranked Oklahoma tomorrow at 12:30 p.m.  A notable storyline from that game is that Jocelyn Alo is looking to set all the time NCAA record in Home Runs as she is currently tied with 95.
