FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton (7-3) will face San Diego State (6-3) in a midweek matchup at Anderson Family Field on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
The Titans are coming off a 3-2 weekend at the Hillenbrand Invitational in Arizona with wins over Illinois-Chicago, New Mexico, and South Florida. The win against UIC was a tremendous comeback victory as Fullerton trailed 8-0 in the fifth, but scored seven runs in the top of the inning and five in the top of the seventh to pull out a 12-8 victory. Sophie Frost held New Mexico in check as the Titans went on to win that game 6-2. The third victory of the weekend was the team's fourth walk-off win of the season taking it 5-4 against USF.
Individually, Ari Williams led the offense going 9-16 (.563) at the plate with a walk-off triple, three home runs, and nine RBI. Alexa Neil was the other major standout, going 7-14 (.500) with six runs, four walks, and two huge RBIs out of the leadoff spot. Both players earned Big West weekly honors as Williams was named Field Player of the Week and Neil was named Freshman of the Week.
San Diego State is coming off a 3-1 weekend as they hosted their 29th Campbell/Cartier Classic last weekend. Their wins came against Middle Tennessee, Northern Illinois, and UC Santa Barbara. Their lone loss came against Grand Canyon as they were shutout 8-0 against the Lopes.
Their offense is led by Kiera Wright, who's hitting .400 and is a perfect 4-4 in stolen bases at the top of the Aztec lineup. Molly Sturdivant is right behind her in average with a .348 clip while Kelsey Munoz has been providing the power hitting .333 with two home runs and nine RBI.
In the circle, Marissa Moreno leads the staff in innings pitched at 29 so far this season. She sports a 4.10 ERA with 26 strikeouts while walking 15 batters. The Aztec ERA leader is MJ James, who has a 3.98 ERA in 19.1 innings.
This will be the 71st matchup between the two programs with Fullerton leading the all-time series 49-21.
