Women's Soccer Spring Schedule (PDF)
FULLERTON, Calif. --- The Cal State Fullerton women's soccer team unveiled its nine-game spring schedule on Thursday.
The Titans will play eight home games and host a total of 11 games at Titan Stadium while playing one game on the road. The Titans' fourth annual Soccer For Hope Benefit highlights the spring slate on April 1.
The Titans will also welcome the 2016 NCAA National Champions, USC, to Titan Stadium on April 23.
"We set up the 2017 spring schedule with a set goal for every game," said Cal State Fullerton Associate Head Coach Michael Thomas. "We have a balance of matches that will provide us with an opportunity to develop players, continue to set our identity as a team and provide a good entertainment value for our fans that want to get a sneak peak at the 2017 version of the Titans."
Fullerton opens up the spring slate on Feb. 25 with three games scheduled at Fullerton. UC Santa Barbara and Azusa Pacific kick off the action at 3:30 p.m. followed by the Titans taking on Azusa Pacific at 5:20 p.m. and then wrapping up the day against UCSB at 7:00 p.m.
The Cougars went 12-4-4 in 2016 and went 9-1-3 playing in the PacWest Conference in NCAA Division II. They advanced to the second round of the NCAA West Regional before falling to UC San Diego.
The Gauchos finished the 2016 season with an 11-6-2 overall record but struggled in Big West action, going 2-5-1 and missed the 2016 Big West Tournament. The Titans fell to the Gauchos, 2-1, on Oct. 16 at Harder Stadium. Sarah Fajnor scored Fullerton's only goal in the 88th minute.
Fullerton will then take a couple of weeks off before hosting another team from the NCAA Division II PacWest Conference as Cal Baptist visits Titan Stadium. The Lancers were 10-5-1 in 2016 and finished 9-2-2 in conference play.
On March 26, Fullerton will play a pair of games in two different locations. The Titans will play at Loyola Marymount at 11 a.m. and then return home to take on San Diego for a 5 p.m. kickoff Titan Stadium.
Loyola Marymount had a solid season in 2016, going 11-5-3 overall with a 6-3-0 record in West Coast Conference play. The Titans and Lions faced off in an exhibition game on Aug. 12 with LMU scoring a 2-1 victory at Titan Stadium.
The Toreros went 10-8-1 in 2016 with a 5-4-0 mark in the West Coast Conference and edged the Titans, 1-0, on Sept. 23 at Torero Stadium in the final seconds of regulation.
For the fourth consecutive year, the Titans will partner with Soccer For Hope, a non-profit cancer awareness foundation, to help spread cancer awareness on April 1 at Titan Stadium. Fullerton faces CSU San Marcos in the first game of the day at noon followed by CSU San Marcos taking on CSUN at 2 p.m. The day concludes with youth games and the Soccer for Hope event at 3:50 p.m. and then the Titans taking on CSUN at 5 p.m.
For more than 10 years, Cal State Fullerton has supported Soccer For Hope with student-athletes participating in yearly youth camps that the organization hosts to support children and families affected by cancer.
Soccer For Hope is an organization founded by Oliver & Jamie Wyss in 1998. Oliver is a former professional soccer player and survivor of Aplastic Anemia. The organization has been driven by its goal to raise funds and awareness for children with life-threatening diseases.
Fullerton's spring schedule comes to a close on April 23 as the Titans host CSU Los Angeles, Cal Poly Pomona and the 2016 NCAA Champions USC.
The day kicks off with CSULA against the Trojans at 1 p.m. The Titans take their shot at the defending national champions at 3 p.m. with the day concluding with the Titans taking on Cal Poly Pomona at 5 p.m.
