KICK OFF: It's a very simple formula for the Cal State Fullerton women's soccer team this weekend... "win and you're in." The Titans (8-8 overall, 5-2 in the Big West) head to Northern California needing just one win in its final two league matches of the year to clinch a berth into the conference tournament for the first time since 2007. Fullerton takes on UC Davis on the road on Friday afternoon (Oct. 26) at 2 p.m. before heading to Stockton on Sunday (Oct. 28) for a 2 p.m. kickoff against Pacific.
IN THE POLLS: Neither Cal State Fullerton nor its opponents are ranked in the top 25 entering this weekend's contest.

BIG WEST BIG PICTURE: Fullerton enters the final weekend of the regular season holding on to the fourth and final berth for next week's Big West Conference Tournament, three points clear (and a tiebreaker advantage) over fifth-place Long Beach State, one point back of UC Irvine and Cal State Northridge (which play one another this weekend) for second place, and two points behind league-leading Cal Poly. A pair of victories (giving Fullerton 21 points), along with some help, could net the Titans the league's regular season title as Fullerton needs a loss or tie by both the Anteaters and Matadors in one of their season finales to clinch the crown and top-seed.
UC DAVIS BRIEFLY: The Aggies enter the week just under the .500 mark at 7-8-2 overall and 2-4-1 in Big West Conference play... Davis enters the weekend on a four-match winless streak (0-3-1) after dropping a pair of one-goal matches on the road at Hawaii (3-2) and at Cal State Northridge (1-0) last weekend... the Aggies last won back on Oct. 5 against travel partner Pacific by the score of 3-2 in Stockton... junior Ashley Edwards leads the Davis offense with six goals and 14 points on the year while standing second on the team with 34 shots... the Aggies have outscored opponents, 23-19, and outshot the opposition, 253-213... Taylor Jern has played all but 24 minutes between the pipes this season, posting a 1.09 goals against average and 78 saves.
HEAD-TO-HEAD WITH THE AGGIES: Cal State Fullerton leads the all-time series with UC Davis by a 7-1 count, winning the last three-straight since the Aggies' only win (2-1) in 2008... the Titans have come away victorious in four of the five all-time meetings in Davis... Fullerton has outscored Davis, 8-3, during its three-match winning streak... five of the eight meetings have been decided by a single goal.
PACIFIC BRIEFLY: The Tigers are scuffling in 2012, posting a 3-12-1 overall record and an 0-6-1 mark in Big West Conference play... Pacific will take on UC Riverside on Friday before hosting the Titans... the Tigers are winless in their last seven matches since the start of Big West play, last winning on Sept. 23 against Arizona at home by a 2-1 score... Pacific has been outscored 22-9 in conference play, allowing just over three goals per match... 11 different Tigers have found the back of the net this season, but only two of them have scored multiple goals... junior Maricela Padilla leads the offense with six goals and 13 points on the season, taking a team-high 46 shots... junior Tashia Long (2.25 goals against average, 38 saves) and freshman Kathrine Larsen (2.37 goals against average, 34 saves) have split time in net this season, each appearing in 11 matches, but Larsen starting nine of the team's 16 contests.
HEAD-TO-HEAD WITH THE TIGERS: Cal State Fullerton leads the all-time series with Pacific by a 13-6 count, with the two programs splitting the last four meetings, each posting a pair of victories on their respective home fields... the Titans are just 4-5 against the Tigers in Stockton compared to an almost perfect 9-1 mark at home... Fullerton's last win in Stockton came in 2006 with a 2-1 victory... both of the Titans' last two victories over the Tigers have been in overtime in 2009 and 2011.
"O CAPTAIN! MY CAPTAIN!": Seniors Stacey Fox, Jennifer Smith, and JeAnne Mazeau, along with sophomore Chelsey Patterson, have been selected as captains for 2012.
GOOD THINGS COME IN PAIRS: When seniors Stacey Fox and Ann Marie Tangorra punctuated their final home appearance of their collegiate careers with two goals apiece on Sunday, they accomplished something that hasn't been done by a Titan duo in nine years when Paige Morgan and Kandace Wilson each scored twice in a 5-0 win over Oregon on Sept. 28, 2003. Sunday's scoring outburst marked only the ninth time in the history of the program that the Titans have had two players score at least two goals in a match, a short list that also includes a trio of Titans (Jenny Mescher, Erica Jacalone, and Tennli Ulicny) with at least two goals in an 8-0 win over Southern Utah on Sept. 23, 2001.
TWO SQUARED: Fullerton's four goals scored against Cal Poly last Sunday were a season high and marked only the fifth time in 16 matches this season that the Titans have scored multiple goals in a match (3-2 record in those contests). The four goals were the most for a Fullerton squad since the Titans scored the same number in a 4-1 win over UC Davis to close out last season on Oct. 30.
LUCKY SEVEN: With her two goals against Cal Poly, senior Stacey Fox took over the team lead in the category, posting the most goals for a Titan striker since Christina Murillo finished with eight in 2010 and setting a personal career high in the process, besting her five goals scored during both her freshman and junior seasons.
WELCOME TO THE CLUB: With her two goals against Cal Poly, senior Ann Marie Tangorra notched the 10th and 11th scores of her two-year Titan career, making her only the 18th player in the history of the program to reach double digits in goals, joining her teammate Stacey Fox, who accomplished the feat in 2011. In only 31 matches as a Titan entering this weekend, Tangorra ranks fifth on the school's career chart in points per game (0.91), assists per game (0.23), and goals per game (0.35), while ranking second on the all-time list in shots per game at 3.06 -- trailing only all-time leading scorer Dolores Browning (1995-98), who averaged 3.38 shots per match during her standout four-year career.
FOX-Y LADY: Fox continues to climb in the Titans' record books, as her two goals last weekend gave her 20 for her career -- good for sixth-place all-time and just one behind Kellie Cox (2001-05) for fifth -- while her 45 career points moved her into ninth place on the school's all-time list -- just one back of former midfielder-turned-assistant coach Lauryn Pehanich (nee Welch) for eighth. Fox also ranks eighth on the school's all-time list for goals per game (0.31), 10th in shots (105), tied for third in game-winning goals (6), and tied for fourth in penalty kicks made (2).
SHUT(OUT) THE FRONT DOOR!: As the Titans head into the home stretch, Cal State Fullerton has yet to be shutout with two matches remaining in the regular season, extending a streak that has lasted a total of 19 matches overall dating back to a 1-0 loss to Cal State Northridge on Oct. 20, 2011.
"E" WITH ANOTHER "A": Junior Erica Mazeau tallied her team-best seventh assist of the season in Sunday's win over Cal Poly, placing her in a three-way tie for second in the Big West (just one back of Long Beach State's Nadia Link for the team lead) overall and tied for second with 0.44 assists per game. The "helper" helped the Yorba Linda native leap up the school's record books as well, placing her in a five-way tie for second on the single-season list (Barbie Gil holds the mark with 13 assists in 1996) while her eight career assists are just outside the top 10.
IT ONLY TAKES ONE: Cal State Fullerton has had five matches decided by a 1-0 score this season and the Titans are unbeaten in all five contests, posting a perfect 5-0 record. Fullerton's 1-0 win over UC Riverside on Oct. 14 marked the 12th one-goal match in 16 contests this season (6-6 in those games).
WELL, THAT WAS UNEXPECTED: The four goals allowed to UC Santa Barbara last weekend were the most given up by the Titans this season and the most in over two years since surrendering five goals in a 5-2 loss to Long Beach State at home on Oct. 17, 2010. The two goals scored by Fullerton, however, marked the Titans' first multiple-goal match since a 2-1 win over the then-No. 21 49ers on Sept. 30.
MISSING IT BY *THIS* MUCH: It is really becoming a heartbreaking, yet consistent, story for the Titans in 2012 as six of their eighth losses have been decided by a single goal save a, 3-1, defeat to UC Irvine on Sept. 28 and last Friday's 4-2 loss to UC Santa Barbara. Also, in an odd turn of events, five of Fullerton's eight defeats have come via a 2-1 score -- including a pair in overtime in back-to-back contests at Loyola Marymount (Aug. 19) and Michigan (Aug. 24).
CORNERING THE MARKET: Fullerton's 11 corner kicks (all in the first half) against UC Riverside on Oct. 14 were just one shy of the team's season high (12 at Cal State Northridge on Oct. 5) and two short of the school single-match record of 13 that has been reached on three occassions (the last coming against Pacific on Nov. 4, 2005). The Titans enter the final weekend with a huge lead in the category overall in the Big West, accumulating 111 corners to pace the league (UC Irvine and UC Santa Barbara are tied for second with 71).
MARICIC LOVES CLEAN SHEETS: With her fifth shutout of the season against UC Riverside on Oct. 14, Maricic logged the 11th clean sheet of her career -- good for third place behind only Laura Janke (13 from 2000-03) and career leader Karen Bardsley (26 from 2002-06) on the all-time list.
STREAK SNAPPED: UC Santa Barbara's first goal of the match at the 14:42 mark of the first half on Oct. 19 snapped a shutout streak of 373:18 -- the fifth-longest streak as a team in school history and the second-longest for a keeper as junior Lindsey Maricic's run between the pipes trails only Karen Bardsley's school record of 521:35 set from Oct. 9-Nov. 6, 2005.
SHE'S A KEEPER: Since her return to the cage against top-ranked Florida State on Sept. 1, junior goalkeeper Lindsey Maricic has been solid between the pipes for the Titans, posting a 0.87 goals against average (second in the Big West Conference) and five shutouts (second in the league) to go with 33 saves and a .805 save percentage (third in the league). With her four saves on Sept. 16 against Texas Tech, Maricic became only the sixth Titan keeper to notch 100 career saves (and currently ranks fifth on the all-time list with 120) and she earned her 16th career victory on Sunday against UC Riverside, keeping her in sole possession of fourth on the school's all-time list (Suzy Strazzulla and Laura Janke are tied for second with 24 wins).
