Battle at the Rock Day One Results
RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- Senior Martina Edberg and sophomore Pauline Welker wrapped up the first day at The Battle at the Rock near the top of the leaderboard after 36 holes Monday at Oak Quarry Golf Club.
Edberg and Welker paced the Titans effort on Monday in the team's return to the links as they each shot a 2-over 146 through two rounds of play. Edberg posted consecutive rounds of 73, the first time this season she failed to record a round under par on the opening day of the tournament. She carded five birdies on the day.
As for Welker, the sophomore out of Domevre-en-Haye, France stormed up the leaderboard after posting a 2-under 70 in round two after carding 4-over 76 in the first round. Welker jumped up 11 spots thanks to three birdies and 14 pars in the second round to finish the day in a three-way tie for third along with Edberg and Desiree Gillaspy of Cal Poly.
Sofia Anokhina of Northern Arizona currently sits atop the individual leaderboard, pacing the 84-player field after shooting an even-par 144 on Monday.
As a team, the Titans currently sit in a tie for seventh place in the 15-team field after posting a 41-over 617 on day one. Hawai'i finished the first day atop the leaderboard with a 23-over 599 followed by Cal Poly (604) and Northern Arizona (612).
Competing as an individual, Brittany Farrell made her first appearance since the Rose City Collegiate on Sept. 26-27 and played well. She currently sits in a tie for 13th place overall after posting a 7-over 151. She recorded six birdies on the day and finished the 36 holes with a 2-over 74 in round two, her best score since carding a 72 in the third round of the WSU Cougar Cup on Sept. 20.
Daniella Uy is tied for 57th overall after a 17-over 161 while Elsa Lundquist went into the clubhouse with a 21-over 165. Felicia Medalla rounded out the team scoring with a 169 on the day.
Fullerton will wrap up the tournament Tuesday morning with a shotgun start scheduled for 7:30 a.m.
