SEAL BEACH, Calif. – Junior Martina Edberg sits in the top-10 of the individual standings and Cal State Fullerton is in 11th place Monday after the first day at The Gold Rush, hosted by Long Beach State at Old Ranch Country Club in Seal Beach, Calif.
Edberg finished the first 36 holes with a 2-over 146, placing her in a tie for seventh place with five other golfers. She trails day one leader Robynn Ree of USC by five strokes. Edberg posted a 1-under 71 in the first round of the day, sinking two birdies to offset one bogey and along with 15 pars through the first 18 holes. She suffered through three bogeys in the second round but limited the damage by draining 15 pars again.
As for the Titans, Fullerton finished the first day of competition in 11th place with a 47-over 623 through 36 holes. The Titans posted a 24-over 312 in the opening round followed by a 23-over 311 in the second. USC, the no. 1 ranked team in the nation according to GolfWeek's rankings, leads the field after posting a 5-under 571 on day one. Fresno State is second, 16 strokes behind at 587 while the host 49ers sit in third at 594.
Freshman Felicia Medalla is tied for 30th place after day one, posting a 7-over 151 through 36 holes. She set a new career-best with a 3-over 75 in the second round after tying her previous best round with a 76 in the first 18 holes of the competition.
Brittany Farrell finished the day tied for 63rd, posting a 16-over 160. She carded a 79 in the first round and followed that up with an 81 in the second.
Dakota Brown rounded out the Titans team scoring as she posted a 23-over 167 while Nadine Rivera carded a 27-over 171 on day one at The Gold Rush.
The Titans will wrap up the tournament on Tuesday with a shotgun start slated for 8 a.m.
