Titans Finish Sixth at Big West Championships, Two Titans All Conference

EL MACERO, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton finished in sixth place following the final round of the Big West Conference Championships hosted by UC Davis Tuesday at the El Macero Country Club in El Macero, Calif. In addition, sophomore Martina Edberg and senior Tisha Alyn Abrea were each named to the Big West All-Conference team, the conference announced Tuesday.

The Titans shot a 17-over 305 in the third and final round Tuesday and finished the 54-hole event with a 53-over 917 to finish in sixth place, three strokes behind Cal Poly for a top-five spot in the standings. It was the third best finish by the Titans in the conference championships since the women's golf program was reinstated for the 2009-10 season.

UC Davis picked up its sixth consecutive conference title after finishing the tournament with a 6-under 858, a whopping 29 strokes ahead of second-place Hawai'i.

On the individual side, sophomore and 2014-conference champion Martina Edberg paced the Titans as she finished in 12th place with a 9-over 225. Edberg shot a 5-over 77 on Tuesday and finished 17 strokes back of champion Andrea Wong of UC Davis, who carded an 8-under 208 for the tournament. Edberg was also named First Team All-Big West following the tournament for the second consecutive season. Edberg led the Titans in scoring average for the season and scored her third career victory at the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational on Feb. 23-24.

Freshman Brittany Farrell had the best day amongst her Titans teammates on Tuesday as she shot a 1-over 73 in the third round to finish the tournament in a tie for 14th place. Farrell posted a collective 11-over 227 at the 54-hole event and was second in the field of 40 players with 40 pars. She was also tied for fourth in scoring average on par-3's for the event, averaging and even score of 3.00.

Makayla Mier posted a 3-over 75 on Tuesday to finish the tournament tied for 22nd place. She carded a collective 16-over 232 at the Big West Championships and recorded her best finish in the standings in her Titans career.

Nadine Rivera and Abrea rounded out the Titans scoring on Tuesday as Rivera finished in 36th place with a 23-over 239 while Abrea placed 40th with a 34-over 250.

Despite a rough showing this week, Abrea was named to the conference Honorable Mention following the tournament. She played in all nine tournaments for the Titans this season and has played in every tournament throughout her Titans career. She finished third on the team in scoring average this season and scored her first career victory at the Rose City Collegiate, topping a field of 73 golfers with a 1-under 215. The win also helped lead the Titans to the team title at the event.
