Titans Tied for Seventh after First Round at Big West Championships

EL MACERO, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton is tied for seventh place after the opening round of the Big West Conference championships hosted by UC Davis Sunday at El Macero Country Club in El Macero, Calif.

The Titans shot a collective 25-over 313 on Sunday and find themselves trailing overall leader and five-time defending conference champion UC Davis after the Aggies posted an even-par 288 in the opening round.

Sophomore and defending individual champion Martina Edberg is in the top-20 after shooting a 4-over 76 on day one. Edberg sits in 18th place and trails overall leader Blair Lewis of UC Davis by eight strokes as Lewis carded a 4-under 68, one of five players to break par on day one. Edberg had 15 pars on the day to tie for the tournament lead in that category after the first round.

Freshman Brittany Farrell had a solid showing in her first go at the Big West Championships as she shot a 6-over 78 to finish in a tie for 27th place after the first round. Farrell had 13 pars on the day, which tied for the sixth most in the field.

Makayla Mier finished right alongside Farrell as Mier carded a 6-over 78 to also sit in a tie for 27th after day one.

Tisha Alyn Abrea and Nadine Rivera rounded out the Titans scoring on the day as Abrea scored a 9-over 81 to sit in 34th place while Rivera was one stroke back at 10-over with an 82 on Sunday to sit tied for 35th place.

Round two of the Big West Championships will get underway Monday at 9 a.m. with Rivera being a part of the first group teeing off. The event will conclude Tuesday with the final 18 holes of play.
