Titans Travel to Farms Invitiational This Week

RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. –

 

THIS WEEK: The Cal State Fullerton women's golf team will participate in the second annual Farms Invitational hosted by San Diego State University on Monday, March 24.

 

THE COURSE: This week's event will be held at the 6,237-yard, par-72 The Farms Golf Course in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. The three-day, 54-hole event begins Monday morning at 8 a.m. with teams schedule to tee off from the No. 1 and No. 10 holes.

 

THE FIELD: In addition to the Titans and host San Diego State, 15 other universities will participate in the Farms Invitational including fellow Big West team UC Irvine. The rest of the field includes Arizona State, Cal, Idaho, Miami, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Portland State, Stanford, Texas, UCLA, UNLV, New Mexico, USC and Xavier.

 

IN THE POLLS: The Titans enter the tournament ranked No. 84 in the nation according to the Mar. 19 GolfStat NCAA head-to-head rankings. This week's field features six teams ranked in the top-25 including top-ranked USC and No. 2 UCLA along with Arizona State (No. 6), Stanford (No. 13), Oklahoma State (No. 14), and Oregon (No. 21). There are also 16 teams ranked in the top-100 including host San Diego State (No. 45), Miami (No. 26), Cal (No. 36), UNLV (No. 50), Texas (No. 65), New Mexico (No. 71), UC Irvine (No. 79), and Xavier (No. 87).

LAST TIME OUT: The Titans finished in a tie for seventh place at the Juli Inkster Spartan Invite hosted by San Jose State on March 4.

 

Freshman Martina Edberg recorded three straight 1-under rounds of 71 to secure co-medalist honors. With the victory, Edberg became the second Titans golfer to earn a medal since the women's golf program was reinstated for the 2009-10 season and the first to medal in a multi-day event.  

 

Tisha Alyn Abrea came back on the final day and shot her best round of the competition, recording an even-par 72 on Tuesday, She finished with a cumulative score of 225, 9-over par and placing her in a tie for 24th overall in the individual standings.

 
 

Seri Lee shot a 2-over 74 on Tuesday to give her a collective 227 over the three rounds; her 11-over par score placing her in a tie for 31st.

 
 

Dakota Brown rounded out the Titans performers in round three, recording a 7-over 79, tying her round one performance. She finished with a 22-over 238 and tied for 61st.

A NEW LOW: The Titans collectively shot 901 at the Spartan Invite, marking the fifth lowest 54-hole score since the team was reinstated for the 2009-10 season. This year, the Titans have recorded four of the lowest scores in the team's short history since returning to the links.

 

BETTER THAN PAR: Martina Edberg's three rounds under par at the Spartan Invite matched her total of rounds under par for the season combined. The freshman now has finished with six rounds under par this year, the most on the team. Edberg is also now tied for second on the Titans all-time list with six rounds under par, one behind Tisha Alyn Abrea's seven rounds in the red.

 

TOP-20: Tisha Alyn Abrea and Martina Edberg have each recorded five top-20 finishes this season, with Edberg securing her first top-five finish with her victory at the Spartan Invite. Seri Lee has also finished in the top-20 three times this year

--Tisha Alyn Abrea and Seri Lee are the only two Titans since the sport was reinstated to have competed in every possible tournament for Cal State Fullerton for their careers (24-for-24)…

 

--Fullerton's first-place finish in Palm Desert was its best since finishing second at its Folino Invitational on Feb. 17-19 last season. It was also Fullerton's first victory since the Rose City Collegiate on Oct. 1-2 during the 2012-13 season and the fifth victory for the program since it was reinstated during the 2009-10 season.
