Titans Return to the Northwest for Rose City Collegiate

THIS WEEK: Fresh off a fourth-place finish in its first tournament of the 2012-13 season in Pullman, Wash., the Cal State Fullerton women's golf team makes a return trip to the Pacific Northwest this week as one of 13 teams competing at the third-annual Rose City Collegiate Tournament hosted by Portland State.

THE COURSE: This week's event will be held at the 6,080-yard, par-72 Langdon Farms Golf Club in Aurora, Ore. The 54-hole event begins with a 36-hole shotgun start on Monday (Oct. 1) at 8 a.m., and concludes with 18 holes on Tuesday morning (Oct. 2) beginning at 8 a.m.

THE FIELD: In addition to the Titans and host Vikings, the tournament field include Oregon State, Boise State, San Francisco, Eastern Washington, Montana State, Northern Arizona, Northern Colorado, defending champion Long Beach State, Weber State, Seattle University, and Wyoming.

SMELLING LIKE A ROSE: This week's trip will mark the second-straight year for the Titans in this event, rallying to finish fifth out of 14 teams in 2011 after standing seven following the first two rounds. Sophomore Tisha Alyn Abrea shot a consistent 10-over-par 226 to finish ninth overall while seniors Taylor Fowler and Neomi Hunt also posted top-25 finishes with identical scores of 16-over-par 232 to finish tied for 22nd.

THE WEEK THAT WAS: Cal State Fullerton got the fall portion of its season off to a soild start, finishing fourth overall at last week's Cougar Cup hosted by Washington State at the Palouse Ridge Golf Club in Pullman, Wash. Sophomore Seri Lee shot an even-par 216 for the 54-hole tournament to finish in a tie for second individually while sophomore newcomer Makayla Mier was tied for 16th with an 8-over-par 224. Other finishes for the Titans in Pullman: Tisha Alyn Abrea (t22nd), Taylor Fowler (t22nd), and Deidre Crabtree (t52nd).

HOW LOW CAN YOU GO?: Fullerton's total of 892 at the Cougar Cup last week was the lowest 54-hole team total for the program since the sport was reinstated for the 2009-10 season. The score edged out the previous low of 893 set at the Fresno State Lexus Classic in March of 2012. The Titans' scores of 298 in each of the first two rounds in Pullman are tied for the fifth-lowest since reinstatement while the third-round score of 296 is the third-lowest since 2009-10.

LEE-SY DOES IT: Sophomore Seri Lee had a seemingly easy go at it last week in Pullman, shooting 71-74-71 over the three rounds to finish in a tie for second individually. Her first- and third-round scores mark only the sixth and seventh times since the program's reinstatement that a Titan has shot 71 or lower while her 216 total over the three rounds is the lowest for a Fullerton golfer since 2009-10, besting teammate Tisha Alyn Abrea's 217 total at the Fresno State Lexus Classic last season.

NOT TO BE OUTDONE: In her first season with the Titans, sophomore Makayla Mier put her name in the record books in her Fullerton debut last week as her 224 total in Pullman is the fourth-lowest 54-hole total for a Titan since 2009-10. Mier, a Santa Maria, Calif., native who spent her rookie year at Florida International finished tied for 16th at the Cougar Cup.

TAP-INS:

• Sophomore Tisha Alyn Abrea set the school's single-season scoring average (since the program was reinstated in 2009-10) with a 75.74 last season as a freshman, posting five, top-10 finishes and placing among the top 25 in every tournament she competed in during the 2011-12 campaign...

• The top-five single-season scoring averages since the program's reinstatement were all set in 2011-12: Abrea, Taylor Fowler (77.04), Neomi Hunt (77.93), Kathryn New (78.13), and Seri Lee (78.52)…

• Abrea and Fowler became the Titans' first All-Big West Conference honorees since the program's reinstatement as Abrea was named second-team all-conference while Fowler earned honorable mention laurels.
