FULLERTON, Calif. - On the last day of 2014, the Cal State Fullerton women's basketball team pulled out a victory over Missouri, Kansas City, 72-52, on Wednesday afternoon at Titan Gym behind a 18-point, 12-assist performance from Chante Miles and a 14-point, 10-rebound double-double from Kathleen Iwuoha.

Miles set a new career high against UMKC as she scored in double figures for the 10th-straight game, surpassing her previous high of nine-straight games she set last season from Nov. 8 to Dec. 14, 2013.  The guard from Compton, Calif. posted her first double double of the season, and set a season-high mark with 10 assists.

"Really proud of our effort, enthusiasm, and energy today," head coach Daron Park said.  "I thought we were really focused the last two days of practice as we prepared for this team, and I loved the way we shared the basketball. It always helps when you knock down a few shots early because it seems to be contagious. It's a good win for us, and a great way to close out 2014."

The Titans did most of their damage in the first half on Wednesday as they jumped out to an early 14-4 lead with 15:47 left in the first half.  Iwuoha and Tailer Butler led the Titan charge early, scoring six-points apiece as Iwuoha shot 2-of-3 from the field and Butler poured in 2-of-3 from behind the three-point line.

Freshman Portia Neale got in on the action with 10 minutes left in the half with back-to-back three pointers that pushed the Titan lead to 25-9. Fullerton was red-hot from behind the arc, shooting 6-of-11 (54 percent) as they continued to separate themselves on the scoreboard.

At the half, the Titans (5-7) led the Kangaroos 38-20.  UMKC shot 35 percent (8-of-23) from the field and was held to 25 percent (2-of-8) from deep.  Fullerton shot the bell well in the first half, draining 40 percent (13-32) of its field goals and 53 percent (8-of-15) of its three-point attempts.

Calli White, the Kangaroos leading scorer so far this year, led the way with seven points on 3-of-7 (42 percent) shooting from the field while making 1-of-3 (33 percent) from three-point territory.  Miles led the way for the Titans scoring 13 points (5-of-12) and dishing out five assists.

The teams traded baskets for the entire second half as the Titans ended the frame with 34 points and the Kangaroos finished with 32.  Both teams completed the half with field-goal percentages above 50 percent, UMKC shot 54 percent (13-of-24) while the Titans held the slight edge at 55 percent (15-of-27).  The high-percentage shooting from the Titans was thanks to their unselfish play as Fullerton dished out a season-high 23 assists.

"I am so proud of the 23 assists we had on our 28 made baskets today," Park said.  "It shows we're a team and that we trust each other.  It's something we talk about a lot and we've got to have trust in each other to make the right decisions with the basketball.  I think today was a great example of what happens when we have that mindset."

Fullerton had four scorers in double figures on the afternoon, with Samantha Logan (11 points) and Neale (10 points) joining Miles and Iwuoha.  For the freshman Neale, it was her first game scoring in double digits in her Titan career.

With the win, the Titans finish their three-game home stand and will now travel to take on Seattle at Connolly Center at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.
