Fullerton, Calif. - Spencer Thompson's unassisted goal 3:53 into overtime Saturday night lifted UC Irvine to a 2-1 Big West Conference men's soccer victory at Cal State Fullerton.

The win snapped a 6-game winless streak for the Anteaters and left them 6-3-3 overall and 1-2-1 in the Big West. Fullerton lost for the seventh time in the last nine matches to fall to 4-7-1 and 0-4-1.

Thompson outran a Titan defender to a long through ball and beat CSF goalkeeper Tyler Andrews.

Thompson was involved in the biggest play of the match with 24:19 to go in regulation. A Titan defender misplayed a ball and Thompson was one on one with starting CSF keeper Brent Douglas, who challenged and fouled Thompson near the top of the box and drew a red card as the last-line defender. The Titans went down a man and Andrews replaced Douglas and gave up a penalty kick goal to Shane Westbrook.

The Titans tied the match 10 minutes later on a short-handed goal by Jacob Shumway, his second score of the season. He dribbled in from the left flank and blasted a shot which trickled through the legs of UCI goalkeeper Pat Barton.

Fullerton's best opportunity to take the lead came only minutes before UCI's first score. Barton handled a passback from a teammate and the TItans got an indirect kick about 15 yards out. The shot was blocked by the 10-man UCI wall.

Fullerton has not beaten UCI since 1999, going 0-10-4 since that victory.
