Final Stats

Fullerton, Calif. - Anthony Hamilton's volley shot from about 15 yards out with 3:17 remaining in the first overtime period gave UC Irvine a 3-2 Big West Conference men's soccer victory Wednesday night at Cal State Fullerton.

The Anteaters improved to 7-1-1 overall and 2-0 in the Big West while the Titans lost their second consecutive conference match in extra time to fall to 4-5-1 and 0-2-0.

Hamilton, who hit the crossbar from similar range about a minute earlier, collected a deflected ball from Rudy Mondragon, collected it on his foot, bounced it in the air and left-footed it past Titan goalkeeper Kevin Puder.

Eugene Brooks of CSF and Matt Murphy of UCI each scored their seventh goal of the season to maintain a tie for the Big West lead. Brooks booted in a loose ball among a crowd in front of UCI goalkeeper Kenny Schoeni to forge a 2-2 tie with about 20 minutes to go in regulation.

Murphy had given UCI a 2-1 lead with a blast from about 25 yards at an angle at 25:45 of the first half. That goal came only 41 seconds after Brad Evans had tied the match from the identical spot with a free kick.

Fullerton had taken a quick 1-0 lead when Michael Farfan dribbled in from the left side and beat Schoeni to the far post less than four minutes into the match.

UCI has not lost to the Titans in the past 12 meetings, going 8-0-4 since a 1999 loss in Titan Stadium. Fullerton still leads the alltime series, 16-12-6.

Fullerton plays next on Oct. 4 at home vs.Cal State Northridge while the Anteaters host Cal Poly on Saturday.
