Titans Tied for Fourth after Day One at Big West Championship

SIMI VALLEY, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton shot a first-round score of 6-over-par 294 in the first round of play at the Big West Conference Men's Golf Championship on Monday at Wood Ranch Golf Club, placing the Titans tied for fourth in the standings.

UC Santa Barbara leads the Big West contingent with a day one total of 1-under-par 287, followed by UC Davis (292, +4), Cal Poly (293, +5), Cal State Fullerton (294, +6), UC Riverside (294, +6), CSUN (294, +6), Long Beach State (295, +7), UC Irvine (301, +13) and Hawai'i (307, +19).

Freshman Matt Wilson led the Titans shooting an even par score of 72 in the first round and the rookie is currently tied for seventh in the standings. He was followed by fellow freshman Davis Holman, who shot 1-over-par 73 to tie for 15th on the leaderboard.

Redshirt senior Mark Jensma closely follows tied for 17th in the individual standings firing a first-round score of 2-over-par 74.

Sophomore Mark Cobey's first-round effort of 3-over-par 75 has him tied for 25th in the individual standings followed by freshman Jack Ireland's first-round score of 77 (+5) as the rookie is tied for 35th on the leaderboard.

UC Santa Barbara's Zach Smith leads the way after firing a first-round score of 3-under-par 69 while Cameron Kaneko (UH), Jimmy Castles (CP), and Brandon Tsujimoto (UCR) trail by just one stroke.

The Titans will return to action Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. for the second round of action.
